I love this establishment. I've been going for years with my family. I went for lunch today. It was just me and the host sat me immediately on the patio. I was assigned a server named either Brandon or Brennan, I don't exactly remember. Once I was sat, he ignored me for about 5 minutes. The patio was not busy. Once he finally came over, he asked about a drink and if I wanted an appetizer. I told him I was actually ready to order fully. I ordered a no-jito and the steak frites. He began to walk away without responding, and I had to somewhat call after him that I wanted the steak medium-rare. Ten minutes went by, and the bartender ended up delivering my drink. Another 10 minutes went by, and a different sever delivered my food. The food and drink were excellent as usual. The server, however, proceeded to ignore me entirely. Never once came over to ask if the food was alright or if I wanted a refill on my drink. I finished my food in about 10 minutes, set my silverware on the plate, pushed it out from in front of me and pulled out my phone to wait for him to come back so I could ask for the check. 25 minutes went by. I finally managed to make eye contact with my sever. He walked over and very dismissively simply said, "dessert?" I told him I was actually ready for the check and a box. He walked away once again without responding. Another 15 minutes went by before I received my check. I already had my card in hand and went to hand it to him when he set the check down on the table and walked away again. I set the card on the check and turned it, so it was obvious that I had seen it and placed my card on it. 10 more minutes went by before he came back to actually cash me out. He said thank you for coming in, very quickly without looking at me and left. I felt as if I was polite throughout my time there. I am unsure why my server was so dismissive and inattentive. I was one person ordering one meal. I feel like I should have been there around 30-45 minutes at most. I was there over an hour and a half. I was really disappointed. Usually the service is wonderful. I understand everyone has bad days, but this server was very attentive to the 3 other tables on the patio, I'm not sure why I didn't receive the same service. Thank you for taking the time...
Read moreAh, the old fashioned. It's a classic cocktail that's been around for over a century, but when done right, it can still pack a punch and leave a lasting impression. I recently had the pleasure of trying an old fashioned at The Roost, and let me tell you, it was something special.
From the moment the glass was placed in front of me, I could tell that this was not going to be a run-of-the-mill old fashioned. The amber liquid sparkled in the dim light, teasing me with its rich, honeyed scent. The first sip confirmed my suspicions - this was a cocktail made with care and precision, the kind that takes you by surprise and leaves you wanting more.
The balance of flavors was spot-on. The bourbon was smooth and full-bodied, with just the right amount of bite. The sweetness was subtle and not overpowering, with hints of vanilla and caramel that lingered on the tongue. The bitters added a pleasant complexity to the drink, tying everything together in a harmonious blend of flavors.
But what really set this old fashioned apart was the attention to detail. The ice was crystal clear and perfectly proportioned, melting slowly and evenly so as not to dilute the cocktail. The garnish - a single, plump cherry and a twist of citrus - was the cherry on top, adding a pop of color and a burst of flavor that complemented the drink without overpowering it.
Comparisons are often odious, but in this case, I feel confident saying that The Roost's old fashioned holds its own against Death and Company in Denver - a high bar to clear, to be sure. But it's not just a matter of taste - it's the entire experience, from the expertly crafted cocktail to the cozy, welcoming atmosphere of The Roost. It's the kind of place where you can relax, unwind, and savor a drink that's been made with care and passion. And in a world that often feels rushed and impersonal, that's something to...
Read moreWe went for Longmont Restaurant Week and man they didn’t disappoint! For our appetizers we had the Bangin’ Cauliflower and the Scallop chowder. Wowzers! Being a west coast girl, that chowder was better than Ivars! (In my opinion) and the perfect spice on the cauliflower was amazing! For our mains the hubby got Steak Frites and I got the Chilean Salmon. The Steak Frites made my Idaho man very happy, my salmon however was dry and the sauce was a luke warm and had started to develop a skin on top. Taylor was our waiter and was so accommodating, I’m someone who has worked back of house and didn’t want to be a Karen, I explained what was going on with the dish as I hadn’t eaten much of it and I had offered to pay the difference for a steak and frites as a replacement. He told me not to worry that they would replace the dish with my new order. He made me feel taken care of and was great about making me feel less guilty about ordering something different. He was also great about making sure our waters were topped - I am a water guzzler and I was never without which was a feat! Dessert was AMAZING! (Decadent flourless chocolate cake) we thought we were full but we definitely had to fit in room for that. Overall, an amazing experience that we will for sure be returning for more. Thanks Taylor for making our Roost experience great and the chefs for amazing food!!! The only sad part was we forgot our takeout boxes when we used the bathroom after paying and they were too good at being prompt table clearers 😅 and so we are without our day-after steak and frites and...
