This is a review for the bottle shop part of Hop-n-Grape. This is by far the best bottle shop in town. Unfortunately, that doesn't say much as they don't hold a candle to the bottle shops you'll find in Portland or elsewhere. The selection is pretty good and they have a wide variety from a lot of different breweries, both domestic and foreign. However, you really need to be careful of old stock, check the dates on those bottles. There are a lot of 6, 9, 12 month old or older IPAs, Pale Ales, and other brews that do not age well sitting on the shelves. Hop-n-Grape also takes a long time to get new and special releases in stock, IF they get them in stock at all. I think this is because they only get the overflow from the Portland market. If you go in asking about that new special release your favorite brewery just came out with, you'll probably get an answer of "yeah we're trying to get that from our distributor" or "we should have that soon, or in a few weeks, maybe a month or two" which is a bad answer when I'm asking about some new fresh hop IPA. And then when they do get that special release in stock, you'll never know it because they hide them in back and you have to ask for them if they have it. So in summary, it's an okay bottle shop if you can find what you want and it's not covered in a thick layer of dust. I still find myself driving an hour to Portland about once a month to pick up new and...
Read moreI've been to Hop'n'Grape a few times before last night and always had an ok experience, the portions are small for the price but that's usually how it is at smaller local restaurants. However, generally a smaller shop will try to make up for that with great customer service. After last night I, nor anyone else in our party of 6 will ever be returning there. We came in at 5pm thinking there would be a dinner rush (it was a Saturday) instead it was seat yourself and half empty. Since we were a party of 6 we took the larger table on the wall right next to the bar. At the time there were about 5 waitresses standing behind the bar with maybe 3 tables of 3 occupied. Not exactly busy. No one greeted us or asked if we wanted drinks the entire time. We made eye contact, asked for service and basically begged to be waited on. They just stood there chatting to each other. The man with the stache who I've been told owns the place walked past us and his staff and did nothing. We left went right across the street to Los Pepes and had a fantastic experience. I guess Hop'n'Grape feels established enough they didn't need our business, so we will happily...
Read moreIf you are a vegetarian, this place sucks. If you are normal, it is fantastic! From the moment you walk in, the smell is overwhelmingly awesome. Expect to use your dinner napkin to wipe the drool from your face while you salivate. Service is reasonably fast. TV's host a menu of their beer taps (25 typically) and sports telecasts. Seating at the bar is available, but lackluster, due to space constraints and its use as a business hub. Door entrance is odd, entering from an unlit parking lot with a parked car 3' outside the door - try not to smash the people entering in the face as you are leaving. This business is the owner's pride and joy, and he is immersed in every aspect of its operation - he is not absentee, contributing to its success. By no means is this establishment upscale, but in the context of Longview/Kelso's offerings, it ranks near the top. Bring a date. Order her the homemade Mac n Cheese. Spend the rest of the night telling her how fat she won't get. Deliciousness.
5* by Longview/Kelso standards. 4* by...
