I found myself in old Longview where diagonal streets, Olympia way and Washington way intersect at the heart of the city. R.A. Long square is central and laid out to be the center of social meeting place in city. I had been told that the city was planned and constructed as a company town for the relocation of Long-Bell Timber company from Missouri.
As a planned city design by George Kessler and founded by Robert A. Long it has quite a bit of open space with many notable buildings of 1920's vintage that face the square. It is nice that many buildings are made of stone as I am sure it was tempting to use wood frame construction for a lumber town.
A winter storm had just blew through, but the walks were clear with little standing water. It was very walkable. I plan to explore more around this area...
