There’s a kind of magic that happens when you stumble into a place with no pretense, just raw fire and soul poured onto a plate. A&V Grill Kitchen, tucked into a nondescript strip on Weddington Street, is exactly that kind of place. You wouldn’t know it from the outside — a few patio tables, a neon sign, the casual hum of a neighborhood grinding on — but inside, they’re doing the Lord’s work with a shawarma spit and a dream.
I ordered the chicken shawarma sandwich, and from the first bite, it was clear: these guys give a damn. This wasn’t your sad, limp mall food court wrap. This was a fat, bulging, foil-wrapped weapon of flavor. Charred bits of marinated chicken, still crackling with life, tangled up with crunchy cabbage, tangy pickles, and a whisper of garlic so righteous it could make a grown man weep. The sauces — earthy, herbal, smoky — weren’t an afterthought; they were part of the symphony.
The potato wedges that came on the side? Crisped to a golden, blistered perfection, dusted with herbs and punctuated by a few stubbornly spicy yellow peppers that dared you to keep going. This was not polite food. It was food meant to be devoured with your elbows on the table, sauce dripping onto the parchment paper, smiling like an idiot.
Places like A&V Grill Kitchen remind you that good food isn’t about molecular gastronomy, tasting menus, or TikTok trends. It’s about heart. It’s about a guy, a grill, and generations of flavors slapped between two hands and served hot.
Final Verdict: This isn’t just a meal — it’s a handshake from the old world, delivered with the kind of gritty, delicious authenticity that you’ll chase for...

My husband loves Armenian food, I’m not a real fan, but I like it. We love fancy restaurants and environments, which this place is not. It has three tables inside and two outside, but most customers coming in are for take out. The ambiance doesn’t matter as long as the food is great!
Since I tried the combo no. 12 “beef & chicken” I’m an absolute fan of this restaurant. The guys who are cooking and serving are extremely friendly, they love and are proud of what they serve. They work fast and present the food so that it looks inviting. The pieces of chicken are juicy, not overcooked & not undercooked - just perfect. Also the salad & hand cut French fries were absolutely flavorful, prepared with different herbs. Almost too good to be called side dishes. The soup of the day was a chicken soup, very flavorful and rich with chicken meat, small pieces of potatoes and different herbs. For me it had a kind of chicken tortilla soup taste, but my husband feel it is more like a mixture of a Jewish deli chicken soup & Mexican tortilla soup. We both loved it! All of the portions are generous. There is parking in front of the restaurant.
We are very happy with this restaurant & will come...
Read moreWooooowwww such a gem of a find! I was hungry looking for a kebab and came across A&V. The warmth and hospitality I encountered were when walking in from A&V was amazing! They explained everything patiently when I asked what to order.
I ended up selecting a chicken shawarma plate and soup and wooooow it was the best chicken shawarma I’ve had in SoCal and I’ve tried a loooot of shwarma places. The chicken was cooked fresh over a charcoal grill infusing it with so much smoke and flavor only a charbroiled cooker can have.
The combination of everything in the soft lavash was sooooo delicious and super generous in terms of portions! I could only eat half of it. Another main highlight are the potatoes! While most kebab places just give fries, A&V hand cut their fires and infused them with garlic oil and cilantro which paired super well with the shwarma.
I would whole heartedly again here again for a shwarma fix.
Even paired it with an Armenian tarragon soda to wash down the...
