Both the fish and shrimp tacos were fairly tasty, but catching this place at the wrong time of day can actually make the experience feel downright repulsive. The salsa, while flavorful, was also a bit disappointing, as there was almost no difference between the spicy and mild options. My guess is that this is not normally the case, but rather, there was a momentary lapse in thought by whoever placed the bowls. The thing that really grossed me out and sort of pushed the whole thing from "not bad" into the realm of awful and also made me want to vomit a little in my mouth was the state of the self-serve crema bottles sitting in room temp water at the salsa bar. There was really no way to keep the nasty water from the bottles themselves from running off into your taco as you dressed it, which is.. wow, next level gross, and pushed me over the edge, thus prompting this review. Sadly, I would say that this spot is more likely to make you sick due to the lack of attention given to the lobby/dining area than leave you feeling satisfied, and that just feels bad, for me as a consumer, and probably also for the owners whos passion for food is being under represented. This was a place that felt worth checking out just based on the sheer number of other reviews, but I wasn't impressed, and it definitely fel short of the experience that the owners stated remarks intended to create, so I probably won't be back.

Bold statement. Bold claim. We put them through the taste test. BFTIC is an inexpensive cheap and eclectic taco joint on Los Feliz neighborhood that offers Baja-style shrimp and fish tacos, plus house made salsas. There is a consanguinity between indoor and outdoor atmosphere that its very unpretentious. I finally came here to grab a late lunch after years of driving pass by this joint a thousand times. I was in the mood of pescado y camarones taco, so I gave this joint a try. I ordered two fish, two shrimp tacos and a bottle of water. The fish and shrimp cost $2.50 and $2.95, respectively. Furthermore, they were served on a soft flour taco. I had everything (onions, salsa verde, sour cream etc) on my tacos except I had it mild spicy. Their fish/shrimps covered in thick batter were crunchy, warm and fresh. Similarly, soft flour taco was good but easily broken given the amount of food inside. The taste was simply okay-good but not phenomenal or mind blowing. But it’s good enough for the price. Atmosphere was low key and nothing that will blow your mind. However, their service was significantly fast. Staff, a young woman with glasses, was competent and nice. Prices were very inexpensive. Side street parking only. Overall, it was an okay fish/shrimp tacos. I had an okay dine in and order experience. I recommend this taco joint if you’re in the area.

The name of this place is a little misleading. If these are actually the best fish tacos in Ensenada then I will definitely not go out of my way to visit. These fish tacos are very mediocre, but you do get what you pay for. They are only $3 a taco, but I still don’t think that’s worth it. They are freshly fried but the batter and fish really don’t have much flavor and the texture is more batter than fish. What saves these tacos are the housemade salsas and cremas. I loaded up on the medium salsa and what looked to be their chipotle crema. You’re really only getting your flavor form the toppings. Also if you let these sit for more than a couple minutes, the tortillas get surprisingly stiff. Never experienced that before. Speaking of having no flavor, don’t even think about getting any of their potato menu items. ZERO flavor. Staff was friendly and the salsa bar was very questionable when it came to cleanliness, not sure I’ll be back.

UPDATED REVIEW: NO LONGER RECOMMEND.

When I went back to this place earlier this week, it had been about three years since my last visit. I used to quite regularly stop by here! I no longer feel I can give it my recommendation. I had a VERY disappointing experience.

I had a camera with me when I went, as I was just taking photos and that sort of thing. Not taking pictures or footage of anyone working there at all, or anything like that. The moment I walked in, however, the two employees just glared at me and continued doing that the entire time. As the one guy prepared the fish and shrimp tacos I ordered, he literally just stared at me with a stink eye nearly the entire time! It was the strangest thing I had ever experienced! The only thing I did while in there was ask if I could take a shot of one of the signs with the taco options listed on it!

As for the tacos themselves, I tried to not let a sour experience with service ruin the food, but I honestly found the fish/shrimp itself to be extremely bland, flavorless, and weak! I couldn’t even tell which one was the fish and which one was the shrimp! The only thing that saved these tacos for me was the avocado salsa and crema that you can add to it from the toppings stand inside (some of which, including the cabbage, almost looked bad from sitting out for so long).

The patio space outside is also in serious need of some TLC - very messy and unkempt on all the tables.

Another thing - I understand inflation and everything, but these tacos are $4 now! And they’re very small, basic tacos!

I was literally planning on including this place on a video listing some of my favorite taco spots in Los Angeles! Now I’m not even going to return again. What a...

Why go to Ensenada, when someone's brought Ensenada home to you?

A friend of mine who lives in Los Feliz (I'll call him Will--cuz that's his name) brought me here on a Saturday afternoon, and just like the fish we were about to eat, I was instantly HOOKED.

Forget about places like Wahoo's or Baja Fresh trying to sell "baja style fish tacos"--this place has it nailed. Can't confirm this, but rumor has it the guy that runs this place loved baja fish tacos so much, he arranged greencards for the women at his favorite fish taco stand in Ensenada to come to the US, and work at this place. I definitely wouldn't be surprised if this story was true, because they have definitely captured the flavor of the mexican fish taco street carts and imported it to LA.

As others have mentioned, the menu is SUPER simple, and a "Baja In & Out" is probably an accurate description, w/just three things on the menu: $1.50 fish tacos, $2 Shrimp tacos, and $1 drinks (sodas, horchata, etc).

The tacos are complemented with a huge salsa bar that puts places like "La Salsa" to shame, from thick and chunky, avacado, mango, pico de gallo, i could go on and on, they probably had almost a dozen options.

The outside seating is great too--a great place to people watch, and also to bring your dog, if you're going on an afternoon stroll.

It takes me A LOT to leave the westside--and this place is one of the few that gives me an excuse. So simple, so tasty,...
