This place is my #1 hidden gem in studio city. And not the kind of place that everyone says is hidden but is actually plastered all over Instagram, but a genuine unknown delight. I’m honestly shocked how my feed has never shown burosu ramen before for the quality you’re getting.
If you’re dining in between 12-3, you can get one of their delicious ramens for only $13. With the combination of quality, portion size, and price, this a phenomenal deal that you can’t find anywhere else on Ventura. I got the new Reddo ramen which was just to die for. The tonkatsu broth is so rich and some of the most flavorful broth I’ve had, with just the perfect amount of spice to not make it overwhelming. They didn’t skimp on the ground pork and the egg was great.
If you are willing to go further than the $13 steal of ramen, the signature sushi rolls are some of the best around, even compared to the upscale fancy sushi spots around Ventura. The fish is fresh and the flavor combinations are amazing. Their make me special roll is genuinely my favorite roll of all time. I know this place is known for ramen but you would be doing yourself a disservice if you miss out on the sushi. They also have great curry with karaage that was an excellent mix of a sweet and spiceful flavors that made me instantly feel at home. My only qualm with it is that they could definitely put a lot more of the curry sauce on the plate.
I did want to mention that the gyoza was nothing special, so I’d skip on that for something like the potato croquette (once again delicious).
I know the review keeps going but this place does everything they do insanely well, and the next thing to talk about are the simplicitea boba drinks they serve. While not the highlight of the restaurant, they were still great and are definitely Instagram pic worthy.
Lastly the atmosphere and service. Man oh man this place has so much personality compared to the soulless high end places you can find all over the street. Tranquil, cute, and clean with a lot of natural lighting; it gives the kind of vibes of finding a cute coffee shop that you could spend hours studying or working at. There is a very limited amount of seating, but I’ve never had a problem with feeling crowded.
The service is usually top tier with people always welcoming and putting their best attitude forward. Today, we did have a waitress who only gave us the food and left. She didn’t do anything bad, but it wasn’t the friendly vibes I get every other time I’ve come here. Usually the service...
Read moreThis place advertises themself as an “experience” of a meal, and a couple others and myself decided to try this claim out for ourselves.
The place doesn’t scream “Japanese food” or “ramen bar,” but it is a cozy-feeling modern-ish cafe, albeit a little limited in seating.
The staff were very welcoming off the bat, and would continue to be polite for the duration of our stay.
But we mostly came here for the food:
First off, the Okinawa tea does not live up to its name whatsoever. I expected a less sweet tea with the signature kokuto sugar that Okinawa milk tea usually has, but it lacked any similar flavor— it tasted like sweet cream.
The karaage and crispy tuna rice appetizers are decent, being cooked relatively and tasting how you’d expect a cafe dish would.
A funny thing about the menu— all the names are the romaji of katakana-ified English colors (lol)… although some colors are English loanwords in Japanese (I.e. orange and pink)
The Kurimu (cream; miso-tonkotsu) ramen I ordered with the garlic oil was extremely salty. It wasn’t a flavorful salty whatsoever— it tasted like the ocean, and not in a good way.
The reddo (red; tantanmen) ramen I didn’t try, so I can’t make any comments there.
The howaito (white; tonkotsu) ramen had a very watery tasting broth.
The noodles in all of them didn’t exactly feel cooked, and clumped together like frozen portions would (which might just be from it being removed too soon).
The pork chashu, however, was deeply flavorful and well cooked.
This place did give us stamp cards and coupons for a next visit, which is nice, but I don’t know if I will...
Read moreWas wanting Ramen tonight and our usual in the area had a wait so knowing that there are no shortages for Ramen places around the Studio City area, thought I'd give Burosu a try with all the 5 star reviews.
I have to say I was extremely pleased with everything. Our waiter (wish I had gotten her name) was super nice, just couldn't have asked for a nicer person to take our order. I got the Reddit (love spicy) and opted for extra noodles as well as their house Hot Sauce which was one of the most unique flavors for a hot sauce I'd ever had, really nice, I asked if it was something they'd be willing to bottle to sell by itself cause I'd have bought it in a heartbeat but no luck (not yet anyway).
They also have a small selection of Sushi/Sashimi and and cold drinks like Boba with some interesting flavor combinations.
Waiting in anticipation for our Ramen, took about 10 minutes or so, I regret not taking a picture before digging in. Presentation was great, really well constructed. The first thing that caught my eye was how yellow the noodles were which I love. Digging into it, noodles were just the right firmness, soft boiled egg was perfectly cooked, I knew I had found my new favorite place for Ramen.
Broth was excellent, spicy but not overly so to overpower the rest of my palette. I highly recommend Busoru to anyone who has a high appreciation for excellent Ramen that's...
