Finding Burritos La Palma was a bit of an adventure. I actually drove past it at first, not realizing it’s tucked inside a market. There’s a sign out front, but it’s easy to miss. Once I found my way in, I discovered La Palma at the back of the market, almost like a hidden gem waiting to be uncovered.
I ordered two burritos: the Birria and the Deshebrada (yes, that’s the correct spelling!). One thing I immediately appreciated was the fact that the tortillas are handmade and fresh — always a great start. But heads up, the burritos are on the smaller side. If you’re hungry, I’d recommend ordering at least three to satisfy your appetite.
Now, onto the burritos. Of the two, the Birria stood out as my favorite. It had a nice bit of spice to it, which I loved. That said, I was a little disappointed with the texture. For a guisado-style dish, I expected a bit more consomé, but it was on the dry side. Maybe I’m being picky, but I think it would have been better with a bit more juiciness. So, I’m knocking off a star for that.
Overall, Burritos La Palma is a solid spot if you’re nearby. The flavors are good, especially the Birria, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to grab one of these...
Read moreThis place is so good. Every location is good food wise but I called today to make a pick up order and asked the very white guy on the phone what kind of aguas frescas they have (other locations have it) and he said (politely mind you) “pardon my ignorance but what is that” and this has got to be the funniest thing that’s ever happened to me while trying to get Mexican food. My food order is also not correct. I ordered one birria con todo and one deshebrada and the deshebrada is also with beans and cheese when I didn’t want that. Great food here but we cannot rock with this guy on the phone lol. Never in my life did I dream I would call a Mexican place anywhere in the world and have to teach someone what aguas Fresca is. Highland park is wild as hell...
Read moreReally good burritos. I got the chicharron was just a tad bit spicy but I say that for the general population. It was perfect for me. I had the bean and cheese burrito, which was just like homemade. Homemade. We also tried the quesadilla with cheese and quince, and that was amazing. The counter is located inside the market. There's two entrances so either one will work. Place your order and wait for your name to be called. They're seating outside, small tables. And a countertop on the inside and a small table on the outside. The store is great to browse around in. They have a great selection of...
