What a RIP off!! Very High prices and awful food!! This is the second time I've been here in a very long time. The 1st time I had terrible Mexican food thinking well maybe this is not their forte. This time, since it was reccomend for down home cooking, I ordered the fried chicken breast, black eyed peas, & mashed potatoes. I was VERY HUNGRY. When my plate showed up, by the very rude and ignoring me waitress, I said, "I didn't order the fish". I said this because it was very flat, but flatter than a fillet of fish. She told me it was chicken and I was so shocked, I just starred at it and said OK, not knowing what to say. I tried to cut it with a knife with no success and finally got frustrated, picked up the whole thing and was fighting with it like a piece of beef jerky. It was a little embarrassing, but I was to irritated and astonished that they would serve this flat wavy chicken jerky as a thick tender chicken breast, I just didn't care anymore. When I told the waitress about the problem, she asked me if I wanted something else. I should have gone with my first gut feeling = NO, but I reluctantly went with the fish as a replacement. It was a filleted fillet of fish that came straight from the deep fryer, dripping oil onto the plate and firey hot! After it cooled down, I took one tiny little taste=forget it!! Now I had a stomach ache! The black eyed peas were the only thing that tasted good because the mashed potatoes had a strange vinegary taste, and not in a good way. THEN THEY CHARGED ME $17. & change because of the fish. They didn't take anything off for the chicken until I said something about it!!!! Unbelievable! And the ambiance is like a cafeteria. I will NEVER EVER GO BACK. WILL NEVER RECCOMEND!!!! Twice bitten....
Read moreWow, I am not easily emotionally impacted this way, especially while I'm sitting at the restaurant itself. But it's hard not to be. Yes, everyone is friendly, attentive, and genuine. Yes, the place is clean, in fact, spotless. Yes, the food is on point hot and delicious and served fast. All of the basic necessities for a business are there. But the magic that I get the honor of witnessing is the kind that moves me to tears because I know that it is the secret sauce that this business runs on. I recognize it well because it is my business model and motto. Respect and dignity, empowerment, and I development of every single team member. This is what I see and hear while the gentleman who is either clearly the manager or owner is on the spot coaching his team member. And doing it so well that it moves me. I applaud you guys. All of this, while name recognizing his usual clients. I'm sure Mr. Brown appreciates it as much as I do. I once again have to applaud you. Everyone seems to be so proud to work here it makes me want to work, move to California, and...
Read moreAte here with my sister today! We are new in town, having moved to the area for college. Not knowing all the good places to go, we walked along the strip of eateries in Baldwin Hills/Culver City. Let me tell you: from the outside, CJ's may not scream it's absolute beauty as it does on the inside. One place out of many on the block, and a rather small one at that, you may not at first notice just how good this place can be; don't let this deter you. As Texas dwellers for almost ten years, having moved from there about eight years ago now, we were once accustomed to great Mexican food and, having relocated to west virginia, were deprived of it until now. If you go here, I suggest the Flautas with Steak. Our waitress was simply amazing. Although everyone here is practically fluent in English, my sister and I are trying to learn Spanish, and the waitress was patient with our (frankly very bad and very white) Spanish attempts at ordering. Love this place and will come here many times more. I think it may be my favorite restaurant. Gracias, CJ's Cafe! We had a...
