We ordered 3 burger combos, and every burger was way over-cooked. Also, the ratio of the burger was off, and the individual patties were too thick for a double-cheeseburger. Cutting it in half yielded a super messy plate. Lastly, two plates got ran out at same time, and the third friend had to wait at least 3-4 minutes for their burger. He was a hungry fellow, so it was an issue.
We went in the afternoon and sat inside. The space itself is lovely and I like the Japanese influence. However... there were DOZENS of flies buzzing around the dining room and crawling along the windows. I literally swatted a fly at one point and flicked the dead carcass onto the floor.
Ultimately, I left unhappy and unsatisfied for what I had paid ($30). I emailed them and asked if the burgers were supposed to be that overcooked. Their response mentioned that: "the fat content is not as high and [they've] experienced a drier burger as well." In other words, they acknowledged that it was an issue, but only followed up with an invitation to come back and try Doto again...
All told, the Doto Burger did not live up to the hype, and I don't see myself...

Scallop: I enjoyed it overall! Subtle szechuan spice. Sliced a bit too thin for scallop in my opinion. You lose out on the beauty of its texture. Maybe too many sesame seeds?
Fried chicken: I appreciated that it wasn't too saucy and sweet. The actual cuts of meat for the chicken could've been more consistent. One was a dry thin breast piece. One larger piece was all chewy skin and tendon.
Oxtail Curry: My most anticipated dish! Disappointed. Oxtail was tough and flavorless. The sauce lacked depth, nuance and unsuspectingly, salt. And I can appreciate no veggies and just meat, but then I would need a really kick-ass oxtail, which I didn't experience. Though, the biggest travesty was the rice. Overcooked, swollen, and no bounce.
I was really hoping to have my go-to curry dish! Overall, not bad but fell short of what I...
Read moreThe food was savory, packed with umami, and well presented, with very friendly staff and a charming atmosphere. That said, I agree with the other reviewers, the price to portion size ratio is just off. And that’s coming from someone who’s used to LA prices. One example is the bluefin tuna sashimi: wow was it tasty, but at $18, be sure to savor every bite of the four small squares of fish. The pork katsu sandwich had a great texture with soft white bread and crispy pork, though I do think the bbq sauce is a bit too sweet, the overall effect on flavor profile was similar to eating a doughnut (weird but true). The skirt steak skewer had great salty and smoky flavor. The drinks are more comparatively priced to the region, and I recommend the pink moon martini which was...
