I wanted to leave a review because I think this place suffers from what a lot of new bars/restaurants in LA are currently afflicted with: a serious lack of comfortable seating, which honestly, is an extremely big deal to my overall dining experience.
Service: Staff was very lovely; friendly, knowledgable, and attentive throughout the whole meal. My date and I had about four courses and two glasses of wine each and I never felt like I needed to wave anybody down for anything, but they also left us alone enough to chat.
The ambiance: The main seating options were short, backless stools and shared tables. The place wasn't crowded and we had plenty of privacy, but I gotta be real, a backless metal stool is like the last thing I want to sit on to eat dinner. No chair back to hang my back and jacket on and no purse hooks so I had to put my bag on the floor :( The door was also open most of our time there so I left my jacket on because it was cold. There were some metal chairs with backs by the front window, which may have been a more comfy option. I'm extremely anti metal chair as you can tell.
The food and drinks: My date got a glass of Armenian red and me the orange. The wine was good and the server helped us out with our choices and let us taste before pouring a glass. For food we got some bread and butter to start, which was really good. However most of the other dishes we got were served on or with bread so I wish I'd gotten olives or something. We got turnips with herbed butter, which were literally just raw sliced turnips surrounding a pat of herbed butter. Not for me. Next up were sardines in oil with some toast. Sardines are fun and yummy. I felt like $22 was a little steep for what we got. Wouldn't get it again. The next dish was my fave: chicken live pate with blueberry compote on crusty bread. Generous pate spread. The compote was really, really good with the savory salty liver. I'd eat it again. The only thing that was weird was that the pate was like, ice cold. Last dish was polenta with oyster mushrooms and popped sorghum. For those who aren't familiar (I wasn't) sorghum is a cereal grain that tastes like popcorn when popped. The whole dish tasted like popcorn, even the bites without the sorghum. I didn't think the oyster mushrooms were doing much for the taste and texture.
The verdict: There were a lot of good things going on here that were dampened by...you guessed it...the chairs!! And the chill! If I'm going to sit somewhere for dinner and pay a lot of money, I'd really like to be comfortable. I think it would have been more tenable for a quick glass of wine or two rather than sitting down to eat. I probably won't go back of my...
Read moreThe best meal I've had in quite some time! The chef attended our table with each course, explaining the varied dishes. And Oh! What dishes they were! It's hard to choose my favorite, I want to say the caramelized apricot with smoked trout roe. But, the tagliatelle pasta was absolute perfection. And then the chicken liver mouse with blueberry lavender compote...to dream about. Our table shared each dish. Nothing went to waste and we certainly didn't leave hungry. Chef Travis has developed an imaginative menu with locally grown and sourced ingredients, including the meats. I could absolutely taste his passion in every dish. Our server Maggie was on point, pleasant and knowledgeable. Woe is me for living on the other side of the country. I will make a point to sit at whatever table Chef Travis sets when I am in his...
Read moreThis was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve ever had. The service is incredibly poor, there’s only one server for the entire restaurant, and the wait times are ridiculous. Expect to wait a long time just to place your order, and even longer to find out they don’t actually have what you wanted.
They were out of multiple menu items, and to make things worse, they didn’t even let us know until nearly an hour after we ordered. The food that did arrive was underwhelming and definitely not worth the steep prices they charge.
The wine selection is nothing special, yet they charge nearly double what you’d pay elsewhere for the same bottle. Overall, the quality does not match the price or the hype. Save your time and money, there are far better...
