So what does a really bad latte taste like? You don't have to have traveled to 200 coffee shops around the world to taste the outcome, if you've got a developed palate for lattes you'll notice it right away.
If you're ever curious on where the floor of a poor latte begins, the guys at Eightfold can definitely help you. What's incredible is they know how to ruin a good cup with failure in some very elementary techniques - steaming the milk.
That's right you know that thing where you're half paying attention to the spout and the milk is spilling out and of course what difference does aeration make when you've been making your latte the same way everyday... Why would the brand of the milk matter or the texture, after all a latte is just steamed milk and espresso.
That's the cavalier attitude the baristas at Eightfold take to serve lattes and oh please don't try to tell them otherwise because they'll explain to you that steaming the milk is the same no matter what and that's how they make all their lattes.
It's truly tragic in the end because they've done everything else perfectly well - the minimalist decor, white walls, beige painting and those sleek sleeves for the cups are stunning but all to bear terrible cups of subpar coffee.
For good cups of latte check out G&B, the daily dose, and Verve and save your $5 from being...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAnother rude barista experience. Can't look at me when she speaks to me even though there's 2 other people in the entire coffee shop. Told me she's too busy to do that even though there's literally 2 ppl in here right now.
So I get a lazy, rude...."What can I get you?"......I get it, it's 7AM, it's early.... but you chose to work here. You can't look up at the customer and with a smiling or just somewhat bubbly face and say "Hi, how are you?! What can I get you?" IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE.
Rude attitude from a somewhat pretty girl go figure, giant surprise that's Silverlake for you. Super friendly to the girls and extremely rude to the men. Would be a miracle if someone opened up a coffee shop on Sunset Blvd where their customer service was FRIENDLY to it's customers. I don't get it, so easy to do a quick training. Have your staff go to In-N-Out or Trader Joe's just one time and watch how their ENTIRE staff is. Friendly, helpful...not rude and c*nty....so so easy to tell your staff to put just a LITTE...TINY bit of extra effort in to customer service. THAT'S WHAT YOU DO ...THAT'S THE INDUSTRY YOU'RE IN. CUSTOMER SERVICE....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis cafe might seem a little out of the way for most Echo Park roamers, but thatās a plus in my book. Itās not overly crowded and pretty spacious on the inside. Well lit with the tall glass windows and a variety of seating to fit everyoneās needs.
If there is any downside itās that the menu isnāt as diverse as other cafes. This isnāt such a bad thing since they do a solid job with the staple drinks, and they offer a pretty robust list of teas as well. Something many other cafes canāt boast. For a regular and local to the cafe, thatās exactly what you want. For anyone who is just exploring the neighborhood, youāre better suited going further west on Sunset though.
Itās also a bit cluttered in the back making it hard to sit at the communal tables if someone is blocking one side of it already. And itās not as well lit back there either but thatās a given since youāre pretty far back from the windows.
Overall a decent cafe at the edge of the hood thatās...
