When I made the original reservation, even though the reservation included parking, they wanted the customer to request the use of the parking spaces. I requested a “handicap” parking space on booking.com, and I called the property and was told by a gentleman that the front spaces were closer to the entrance except that on our arrival those spaces were occupied and the handicap space was vacant. While I understand that the handicap space or any space is first come and first serve… Today, I encountered the property’s misuse of its handicap parking by allowing their housekeeper to use the handicap parking space for their personal use. Instead of asking their housekeeper to move the vehicle out of the parking space which is reserved for customers with disabilities who have legally obtained a handicap placard or license plate, they resorted with threats to have my car towed so that the house keeper could continue to park there while she served yogurt to guests during a “self service” continental breakfast. My mother has stage 4 breast cancer that has spread to her lungs and can no longer walk long distances, and my father who has dementia and requires a walking aid and walking assistance due to complications from 3 back surgeries. Almost 100% of the time, I have to park and assist my parents into whatever building or location we are going to. Both are permanently disabled in the State of California and are in their late 70s. I called when I arrived, when I saw a Red Toyota suv without a proper handicap license plate or a placard identifying that the driver or passenger of the car has a disability and right to use of the only handicap space on the entire property. The female who answered, rudely commented that I park in the front, but all the spaces were taken. Then I was instructed to “drop off” my parents in the entrance which is in the drive way entering the property on Sunset Blvd, which would block the entrance and looked dangerous to allow my parents to get out of car at that location and leave my car unattended to walk my parents inside of the building. Instead, I left my car with the handicap placard parallel to the house keeper’s suv that unlawfully occupying the only handicap space while I walked into the building with my parents, only to receive a threat from the female at the front desk that my car would be towed. When I asked if she was going to look for the owner of the car, she replied she didn’t have time, but had time to call a tow truck. My car was not blocking anyone except for the unlawfully parked suv in the handicap space. I called the Los Angeles Police Department to ask for advise for the current situation and was advised that I could wait for the housekeeper to remove her suv from its current location. When I asked the female at the front desk if “she” was going to move “her” car, I was told by the female at the desk, that she didn’t know who the car belonged to, but proceeded to say that “she” wasn’t going to move “her” car anytime soon. This is when I figured out that the female at the front desk knew exactly who the driver was, and was in fact her own employee and proceeded with threats of “towing” my car since it’s private property. When the housekeeper finally came out, and I asked if she had a placard, she rudely told me to move my car so she can park her car up the hill in the garage. People with disabilities who are permanently disabled with legal documentation and there vehicles should not be disrespected and threatened like this to allow their housekeeper time to put out yogurts during breakfast period that is self serviced for their guests. Instead of an apology, we were threatened by the female at...
Read moreCame across a Super 8 Magaly Moran business card, the 1341 W. Sunset one – not sure why someone would put their name on a business card for this place – remembered that place, vividly, thought worth giving a review while I toss card in recycling. This place is a great for groups and parties I guess (share the outrageous cost of a room), but kind of literally terrible in every other way, and oddly, have to recommend you bring a plug-in power strip cuz there’s literally almost no wall outlets. Nice old-timey building vibe spot, even liked the window view I got with an intersection light all night – red light, green light, yellow light, repeat, all night (I like weird things); the AC was a little peculiar, not very good. Great little pocket location though for enjoying both day and nightlife. But I can’t believe 2 nights there cost me almost $400…in September… What’s worse, is this is one of those places that totally nickel and dimes everything. After 8 years, I resumed traveling again, was surprised this place was running around $250/night this summer, so in September with a lower price, felt like it would be cool to check out. This one of those hotel franchises that seem to be doing literally anything they can think of to lower overhead for profit… this has gotten ridiculous… I got ONE caffeinated coffee packet, for two days….. my socks were FILTHY by end of FIRST night…. And honestly any hotel that provides literature in the room that they’re all about the environment, as a ruse to say why we’re overcharging you doing everything we can to lower our overhead, for environmental purposes, is just plain scummy…… Because I haven’t travelled in a while, apparently now it’s the norm for hotels to charge you just to PARK there….. what is happening….. Three days before check-in I noticed a $10/night parking fee, so irritated… I had actually picked this place in part because the parking fee wasn’t initially disclosed. Yeah this place was irritating, had a good weekend, but not cuz of this place, won’t be returning. When you actually use the few wall outlets to plug in TV an fridge and use the top socket, to prevent customers from using the bottom socket to idk, charge there phone, then that’s just petty nickel and dime to lower overhead crap. When you can’t figure out why the coffee maker isn’t working, then realize because it isn’t even plugged in, because there’s no where to plug it in, so you have to make your coffee in the bathroom, then your place sucks, and that $10/night just to PARK there, makes you wonder why bother traveling just for fun or the heck of it. No wonder hotel workers / union was on strike at the time, if the industry has laser focused on lowering overhead cost for profit, I wouldn’t want to work their either, much less get a room. 1 star,...
Read moreI have to say, the hotel is in an exceptional location, BUT that pretty much is it. The service was really bad. Room was dirty, shower was stained, beds were uncomfortable, trimming on bathroom walls were falling off the walls, not all outlets worked, and the hotel is on a very noisy street. When we arrived, the girl behind the glass window was laughing and joking with a fellow co-worker, and took a few minutes to open the window to assist us. When she finally opened the window, she was not very friendly. She gave us an attitude as if we were interrupting something important. The breakfast had no variety (waffles, toast, cereal). Waffle maker was broken, I had to hold it still for 2-3 minutes so it would cook correctly. There were signs to not ask for assistance. Staff was not friendly. When we left, we did not realize (after a 4 hour drive home) that we forgot a small bag of personal belongings (expensive makeup and fragrances). When I contacted the hotel. The female who took my call stated that no one had turned anything in to lost and found. She asked me to call back in morning so they could ask housekeeping. I called around 9:00 and the lady stated they had not had a chance to ask housekeeping. I called back around 10:00 and she stated that the housekeeper had the day off. I then asked to speak to the manager, and she stated that the manager would be in around 11:00 a.m. I left a my name and number but did not receive a call, so I called back at around noon. The receptions then told me the manager would not be in until Monday. I asked her for the managers name so I could call and ask to speak to him/her directly. She stated she could not give me their name. I understand that we are responsible for our belongings, but when you get the run around like we did, you cant help but think that they are a bunch of thieves. Oh, one other thing. I booked this hotel online thru a booking website about 1 1/2 month in advance, therefore our room was completely paid for at the time of reservation, BUT 2 days after we checked out there was a unauthorized charge on our credit card from the hotel. When I called to ask about it. I was told they had no idea what we were talking about. I was not surprise at their response. A bunch of rude...
