To celebrate our daughter's birthday, we decided to meet with our family at El Paseo Inn, for a late lunch. When we arrived the line was long, but we only waiting about 10 minutes before we were next. We had a large party of 12 and we were seated in the lower dining room. Upon arriving at our table, it took our waiter 15 minutes to arrive at our table to take our drink and appetizer order. The appetizer (endless chips and salsa) was delivered by one of the workers that was also cleaning up the tables. He seemed to have an attitude, something that would only seem to worsen as the time progressed. I figured since they were busy (we were the only ones seated in this area), that perhaps that was causing a delay in tending to our party, but as the time went on it was playing out as if they forgot us, even tho we were in eyesight (and for those waiters that saw us), we noticed the giggles going on while getting awkward looks from staff. It was now feeling very uncomfortable. When our food arrived, the worker from the kitchen that came to assist our waiter, was rude and shouldn't have even come in that day as he was irritated with everyone. We spoke to the manager, who did apologize and did mention that they were aware of these workers, we are not the first to complain, and that he would now be tending to our table. After that, we had no problems for the remainder of our time. I appreciate the manager stepping in, but NEVER would think at a restaurant (that stays busy) would treat its patrons in this manner and management seems to be ok with this, as they step in to rectify but how do they make their staff understand making your customers feel like this? What's even sadder to me is I am born and raised in Los Angeles. Olvera street is special to me for many things and wanting to celebrate my own with my family, around our culture, was supposed to be a special day/experience. Sadly it left the sourest taste in our mouths. I wish our cultura would get it together, why would you want anyone to feel like this? I am Mexican and my husband is Beautifully black, and my kids are a equally beautiful parts of us. Not sure if that is the problem, but given the treatment, stares/giggles, hard to think it wasn't. Do better El Paseo management and staff....the world has...
Read moreWe go there maybe every other month, and up until then was our favorite. Service on Saturday June 3rd was very slow everyone els that sat down after us was served and had left. When reminded our waiter he rushed our order, as if they had forgotten our order. Up until then waiter was still polite. As I waa eating my taquitos, I had a long strand of gray hair inbetween my mouth and taquito! Wow didnt see that coming I felt like throwing up and my daughter saw the hair and she too felt like throwing up, I immediately reached over to our waiter, tapped him on his shoulder, my plate way I still had 2 taquitos left. He offered if I wanted anthing else. I said no thank you. We were done eating. My daughter also could not finish her order of taquitos, rice and beans, when our waiter brought our bill, they discounted my plate. We were still in disgust to vomit. I ran to the restroom, did what I needed to do. Aftr I walkd out I asked for the manager and was directed to a staff with a mgr tag, I explained situation, and all he said waas these things happen....so I went back to my table and check was still there and my cash my waiter had not taken it yet so I askd the host if he could please take my cash, he did. My waiter then brought my change and I was very hesitant, I usually always leave a bit more than 20% tip anywhere we eat, even at all inclusive resorts in Mexico I still tip so my kids can see that we should appreciate and thank the staff for their food and service. But this incident had me think about a tip. Staff was not apologetic and certaintly not sincere, therefore I left a $1.00 bill as a tip to our waiter. Never had I felt so bad but deemed it. Will I go back and eat there after years of supporting El Paseo Inn??????? Hmmmmmm?????? Nasty! Gross! And Cochinos! I should hate vomitted on my table so all the customers could have the bad experience of hairs in your served...
Read moreI do not spend much time in Downtown Los Angeles, I brought my family here to check out historic Olvera Street. So we decided to stop by El Paseo Inn for lunch. The food was great but the service and staff was so much better. The staff really made the experience worth while for my family and I. My husband and I have a two year old daughter and a one year old son. From the moment we walked up the staff was very aware of my kids. Our hostess Francina was a lovely individual, at one point of our lunch I was preparing to get up to go change my son. Francina approached me before I even got up to leave the table and asked if she could escort me to the restroom to where there was a changing station. I was a bit surprised and she said that she had seen me grab a diaper and wanted to make sure I knew which bathroom was most befitting. I’ve never had a hostess go out of their way to accommodate me and my kids that way before! It made me feel seen and well taken care of, that I was not just another guest to their restaurant. Not only was their hostess very accommodating but our waiter , Jose G. was just as amazing and accommodating. He was very polite, he spoke Spanish to my husband and English to me. We hardly waited for anything we asked for. At one point my son threw up all over the floor. My husband and I asked for napkins so we could clean it up but Jose said that he would get it taken care of. Not even 2 minutes later the mess was cleaned. I always appreciate a waiter that attends to my families needs but is not overbearing, Jose was a perfect example of perfect timing. I definitely recommend eating here if you have a family, it’s kinda loud but the food and service is...
