A must stop for visitors to experience the plaza and related features! As a local guide, I’ve made it a regular stop on the tour route as a place to see and browse! It’s also fun bringing family and friends here for the shopping, food, entertainment and prayer! Old town Los Angeles originally started from the LA River to here as "El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles del Río Porciúncula" or "The Town of Our Lady the Queen of the Angels of the River Porciúncula". The town plaza gazebo is the centerpiece of entertainment and festivities, surrounded by large Moreton Bay Fig Trees. The adjoining Olvera Street is LA’s old market place throwback. LA’s oldest house, Avila Adobe, is just about in the middle of Olvera Street, as are the public restrooms. Two old churches at the plaza have been meticulously maintained and are open to the public. The old historic buildings at the other end have been nicely restored! There’s event space, museum’s and office’s within them. The exteriors are frequently used for period scene backdrops in picture productions. Short term free tourbus parking is available, tho locals can quickly use that as load zone. Longer term parking is available at surrounding lots, for about $2.50 for 20 minutes, $17.50...
