I really wanted to give this place more stars because the staff was super friendly and when I came in the first time I loved their tea bar. However, they advertised gluten free food, but they don't know what that is or what that means. Both Elouise and I are gluten free because we have to be, not bc it's a fad, so Chinese food has been a big No since being diagnosed for me 10 years ago and my kid recently. I was a bit reluctant because on their menu nothing is automatically noted GF, which is a sign, because they are running to the BOH to tell them to make stuff GF vs it showing up on the ticket, but I was ok with that bc we were the only ones in the restaurant when we arrived. Ordered 4 dishes, 2 of them were not gluten free and we tried both of them. My skin had started to itch so I wasn't surprised when they told us to stop eating. They offered us a full refund and to cook us 2 more dishes that were gluten free. I'm hoping that the chicken and mushroom dish was indeed gluten free. I should have quizzed them on the ingredients but I didn't. The next dish, Honey Walnut Chicken was definitely not gluten free as it was on wanton skins which are generally made with flour and water. I caught that so our special trip for Chinese in Silver Lake was a waste. I could have easily gambled in Alhambra and spent less time in traffic. I'm disappointed. We ended up home at 8:30pm with a frozen gluten free pizza. Could have done that much...
Read morePretty much every bad review for this place is unwarranted. If you were actually gluten intolerant, you wouldn't be walking in this place to begin with. HUGE eye roll.
This place is great. I live along Sunset Blvd so it's a very short walk for me to come here. As someone who lives in the neighborhood, I can promise you will find parking at any time of the day on the following streets near Fat Dragon: Micheltorena, Goldengate, and Maltman(if there isn't any parking out front. . .which there always is).
If you actually enter the establishment with expectation of eating Americanized Chinese Food, you won't be disappointed. If you enter expecting a red carpet rolled out for you and a menu made specifically for you, I recommend trying a dash of humility to get you off that high horse. Then come back and enjoy the food like a normal person with a moderately positive outlook on life would.
The food is good, everyone that works there is very nice and they make their own fortune cookies daily! Will definitely be back multiple times while living in...
Read moreHoly guacamole this place is probably going to be my go to for Chinese food. Best hot and sour I've found in austin. Wok on fire a long time ago when i lived south was real good but they changed. I think 888 pan had decent hot and sour and I want to try din ho but they charging an arm and a leg for theirs. Orange beef was amazing usually kinda our go to dishes. The only two things I can say bad is you can't sub for fried rice honestly I don't care that was my brother's request I feel like white rice brings out the dish more almost like a good palate cleanser. and the second being the fried rice lacked msg or something but maybe that's just me and maybe its just me but who goes to an asian restaurant for just fried rice. Oh and the portions are large and for a good price. Pf changs sucks haha don't understand why they have 2 plus k reviews but hey let's keep this our lil secret or they may drop food quality if they get too big like other restaurants. Much love I'm glad...
