Let's get the smaller less important details out of the way. The restaurant itself is very small and usually pretty crowded so don't be surprised if you're sitting 2 feet away from another person that you don't know. The service is quick and friendly. Even though they're usually pretty busy you won't have to wait long to be helped or get your food.
Okay so now let's talk about the important stuff. The food. The menu is small, but the items are delicious and the portions are large .
The Green chilaquiles were my favorite, but they are no longer listed on the menu, so I tried the chipotle chilaquiles the last time I was there. they were a little lackluster. The chilaquiles came smothered in a creamy, slightly smoky, chipotle sauce. Topped with queso fresco, cilantro, and sliced radishes this dish was a 5/10. The flavor was very monotone, and lacked spice. I asked for have to sauce to makeup for it and they become much more enjoyable.
But the breakfast sandwich is what really makes it worth coming here. The fluffiest eggs topped with barbacoa and bacon, all inside a brioche bun so soft I could use it as a pillow. This unique dish was a 10/10 for me.
This is also one of the few places that I have found where you can get a side of plantains and cafe de olla.
It's definitely worth visiting...
Read moreMaybe my review will mean nothing. Maybe it happened to me because, things like this only happens to me, but here it goes. My love, and I read the reviews on Gloria's, and decided to give it a try. When we got there, there was only another couple there eating. Our server came to take our order, we ordered , and quickly got our two cokes. We noticed more people were coming in, and they were already eating! We called over our server, and asked where's our food. He tried to guess our order, and when we said that wasn't correct, he apologized and said the cook messed up our order. Which didn't make sense since he forgot what we ordered. We STILL waited 20 more mins when we decided we needed to leave. People were coming, and going while we sat there hungry. As we were leaving the host/server didn't stop us, didn't try to apologize but did try to charge us for the two cokes. We just walked out btw, we didn't touched those water down cokes. I felt like he didn't want to give us service. We weren't loud, we dressed right, and we had money. I don't care if I tried the food or not in a restaurant. If they give poor service then, I don't want to eat there. Keep your food, and I'll keep my money and give it elsewhere, where's its wanted, ...
Read moreGloria's Cuisine LA is a cute, busy spot that is vibrant and lively, but mixed opinion with the food I ate.
More than just a hole in the wall, Gloria's is popular especially on an early Sunday afternoon with a decent waiting list outside (sidewalk seating need more shade). Inside, the waiters are friendly and the decor and vibe are lively.
When it comes to the food, though. I really only like the platano . It's hard to mess fried plantain bananas but they do change it up a bit with the goat cheese, and the cream sauce they added. They make the dish a bit more interesting although the cream sauce can be a bit heavy if you dip into thst cream a bit too much.
Sadly the avocado toast is somewhat underwhelming. Avocado toast seems like a straightforward dish, but it can easily be too one-note in flavor like it is here. The tomatoes, chili, and pickled sweet peppers do little to add a bit of intrigue and delight to the tastebuds, as they are overtaken by the over abundance of avocado that is surprisingly a bit flat. It's almost like it's missing some salt, pepper, or something to kick up the flavor a bit more. So yes, the avocado toast is nice to look at, but...
