Hare Krishna. Let me discuss the positivesā¦.incredible interior change. The people that made the new wooden tables are to be commendedā¦beautiful work. My first experience with a Krishna Feast was on Kauai in 1971 as a teenager. We had abundant portions and we found someplace to sit whether it was a rock or on the groundā¦.it wasnāt fancy. I like the pricing and weighing policy but it cuts out going back for seconds. Govindaās has to make money in this horrible business climate. So 2 types of rice, beets, salad, potato salad and that great dessert. Where the heck is the bread and pasta , sunflower seeds, corn? Those great salad dressings. Why cut all that? I was left wanting more. Before I think I paid $ 7.50/senior discount and all you could eat (I only went back in the day for just a few thingsā¦small portions, that wouldnāt break the bank). So it cost $ 8.13 today for about 70% of the portion I used to get. And where are all the lunchtime people of all types that used to come in at lunchtime? There was a somberness and sadness in the air. Even the music and singing coming from the service in the temple had an air of sadness. Krishna music/singing always had an up quality.
The people serving were very polite and attentive.
Iāll give it about a month and try it again.
Iām hoping to give it 5 stars next...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGovindas is a legend and rightly so. First: Amazingly sweet and kind staff. They are some of the kindest, most hard working and good natured staff you will ever meet, and infuse so much love in the food. The salad bar + buffet is fantastic - fresh veggies and homemade dressing for $8 all you can eat! Except for the dals, which are superb, this is not authentic indian food but a very satwic, pleasant and easy to digest menu that includes things like stir fries, lasagna and enchiladas. Nothing is spicy, so good for Indian food newbies. Everything is onion and garlic free, which is kind of mind boggling when you taste their creations. Lots of vegan options - other items are very generous with the cream and ghee. (Beware: you can get very full very fast here!) Come on Sunday for a totally different, more indian experience. And..make sure to try gowri's out of this works vegan cake!! You...

Govinda Cafe stands out not only for its healthy, fresh, and high-quality food but also for the warmth and kindness of everyone who works there. The meals are made daily without onions or garlic, perfectly suited for the Krishna diet, and you can feel the care that goes into every dish.
Every day, thereās a different menu, served with a smile, and itās almost impossible to find a better deal in LA. Nestled in a neighborhood known for some of the best Indian cuisine in the city, Govinda Cafe offers a softer, more traditional approach thatās both satisfying and unique. The dal over rice is consistently delicious, and the samosas are always fresh and flavorful.
If youāre looking for a place that serves nourishing food with a sense of community, Govinda Cafe is a must-visit. Highly...
