Gulp Restaurant & Brew Co — Restaurant in Los Angeles

Gulp is a cute little spot, tucked away a block off Jefferson in Playa Vista. Since it's walking distance from work, it's a convenient spot for lunch or Happy Hour. They're never super busy, so you'll easily get a table.

I want to like this place so much, but the inconsistency on food preparation, paired with slightly overprices menu, makes it hard.

Let's start with the positive. The service. The staff overall is very friendly & inviting. One waitress in particular (I don't know her name but she usually works lunch shifts on Fridays. Long brunette hair. Sometimes wears glasses) stands out above the rest. She always smiles and makes you feel very welcome and comfortable. We've come here with a larger group at lunch, celebrating a birthday. We brought a cake and she hid it in the kitchen, and brought it out with candles (we brought them) lit. She didn't have to do that. She shuffled the check around, so the bday person didn't even see it. Above and beyond!

The patio is dog friendly!

Drinks are good. I love the spicy margarita. Overall, drinks from the bar are pretty solid, no matter what you order.

Now for the not so good. As several of the other reviewers notes, the consistency of the food is lacking. I've tried several things of their menu. The nachos are large, but it's mainly a pile of chips with toppings sprinkled over at the end. Once you eat the top layer, you are left with just chips. One happy hour, I ordered the greek flatbread and it was so good. Crispy crust, melted gooey cheese. The next time I ordered it, maybe a week later, it tastes like a frozen pizza, that didn't get fully cooked. One time for lunch, I ordered the Club Sandwich. The bread was warm and toasted, but still soft. I really enjoyed it. Next time I came for lunch, I ordered the same and recommended it to others (sigh), but this time the bread was hard, like a cracker. It made it very hard to eat. It wasn't even the same type of bread.

Inconsistencies like this, make it hard to want to come here for anything other than a spicy margarita....

I have been going to Gulp from the moment it opened and usually have a very good experience here i typically go with my girlfriend and my daughter and we have a couple of drinks and food and have never until last night had a bad experience there. Last night we walked in and went up to the bar and i was waiting to get the barmans attention but before i could get his attention i was tapped on the shoulder and asked by the manager Sandoval if we wanted to sit outside.We were going to go outside anyway but i just wanted to get a drink for us first,anyway we went and sat outside and Sandoval took off and we waited and i noticed him serving other people so i just thought i would go get us a drink while we waited,something i have done many times before when i have been there.I went to the bar and purchased 3 drinks and came back outside and sat down and no sooner than i sat down the manager Sandoval came over and told me that if i sit outside the server has to serve me and he asked me to leave! i couldn't believe it! There were lots of empty tables and if he had told me sir company policy is that you can only get a drink from a server outside i would have at least understood but to be asked to leave was just ridiculous! Location was awesome. Was really excited to try this place. Food was decent. Fatty steak, asked for no Pico and got extra Pico instead. Waitress seemed preoccupied, overheard her having a harsh discussion with a male coworker. We asked about sides, she didn't offer anything but salad then was just short with everything we asked like we were bothering her. We get our food and she never comes back to check on us. No refills, no second drinks in general. We then see her telling her coworkers she loves them and walks out and leaves. We sat over 15 minutes waiting for someone to bring the check. No one ever asked how our food was or if we wanted another drink. I don't live in the area so I won't be back but I was really hoping to leave an awesome review.
