Handel's Homemade Ice Cream — Restaurant in Los Angeles

Handel’s is the best ice cream I have ever had in all my 75 years of life! The only DOWNSIDE of their Northridge location is that they are trying to satisfy a huge demand with only 2 servers on Saturday night Who owns this franchise? The line tonight is 40 feet outside the store! My wife and I have been on line for 20 minutes and haven’t even gotten in the door. People drive up and seeing the line just leave. Review: THE PRODUCT IS THE BEST BUT THE MANAGEMENT IS THE WORST!!!!

In answer to your question, we parked at 9:00PM and didn’t get served until 9:40 pm. There were 4 people in the store, but only 2 of them were serving most of the time. One spent 30 minutes sweeping the floor and washing scoops, and the 4th was only in sight for about 5 minutes while I could see inside the store. We ate our ice cream in our car and drove home at almost 10:20 at which time the end of the long line outside the store were finally getting in the door. It is my guess that an a Friday or Saturday night when outside temperatures have been in the 80’s or 90’s you might reasonably have 6 or 8 servers scooping ice cream, and if the floor needs sweeping or scoops need washing make that an extra person. I counted 6 or 7 cars drive up and looking at the line outside, just shook their heads and drove out! In the future if I want some of your delicious ice cream on a Friday or Saturday night, I will have to think twice about waiting on that 40 foot 45 minute line. I’m a huge ice cream fanatic so when I saw Handel’s by target I knew I had to stop by.

The parking here is plentiful so you never have to worry about that and the prices here are fairly modest and competitive in relation to other ice cream shops. They have a loyalty card where you buy 12 menu items and get 1 free scoop.

We opted for the 4 scoop sampler at just $7!

Flavors we tried:

BLUE MONSTER — 5/5 product! Think cookies and cream but it does stain your mouth!

ORANGE CREAM DREAM — 3/5, truthfully it was alright. It has flavor but lacked in comparison to everything else.

STRAWBERRY CHEESECAKE — 4/5, I’m a huge fan and the strawberry was quite delicious.

PUMPKIN PIE — 5/5, absolutely cannot recommend this enough for pumpkin lovers

NY STYLE CHEESECAKE — 6/5, honestly this was spectacular and the cheesecake mixed into it was divineee

PRALINE PECAN — 3/5, truthfully was ok but also paled in comparison to the others

BUTTER PECAN — 4/5, I am a huge butter vanilla fan and the pecans made it even lovelier

PISTACHIO — 4/5, I think because the flavor is so subtle in comparison it really could have been better on its own.

I look forward to trying the other items...

Handel’s is a great place for ice cream & classic sweet treats. They have some nice classic flavors or ice cream and tons of new creative combinations of flavors and toppings/mix ins. Almost anything you can think of they’ll have it. Prices are reasonable for the amazing tasting ice cream you get. It taste so fresh and creamy and real. Nothing artificial tasting in their ice cream. The amount of options can be overwhelming because you’ll want to try them all. The line can be crazy long here so be prepared to hang out for a bit, but it’s definitely worth the wait. My only complaint is no inside seating, the area can be a bit warm/hot so sitting outside isn’t the nicest. Other then that, I’m stoked I found this place and can’t wait to go back and take some more family and friends with me to share the great ice cream here.
