I’ve done about 8-10 escape rooms, so writing this from that perspective. I also won’t say which room I did to be extra sure I avoid spoilers.
I’ll start with the positives: I thought the person who greeted us at the front desk and spoke to us on the phone were very nice! Also, the decor of the rooms were great! Guaranteed private experience is also nice.
Now the negatives, all of these would be OK on their own, but the combination was tough:
A couple times when solving puzzles, there was a slight delay in receiving the next clue, which felt odd. For instance, when entering in a code, nothing happened, and then around 2 minutes later, a door would open in response. This lag time ate away from the experience, as we scrambled wondering what we did wrong. It almost felt like there was a person that needed to prompt something happening vs. it being automatic.
There just weren’t that many puzzles either. For a room that was advertised by someone on the phone as a 9.5/10 difficulty, there were maybe only 7 or 8 puzzles - it felt like 30-40% of puzzles vs. what I’ve experienced at other rooms that were actually a 9.5/10. I would say more accurately this room was a 4/10 difficulty relative to other places I’ve tried. Additionally, the puzzles were mostly linear, which meant with 4 people, we were cranking through because there wasn’t time really spent establishing which clue should fit a puzzle since there was only one option - it lowered the difficulty relative to other rooms I’ve played where we would have to divide and conquer. In true 9.5/10 scenarios, it’s felt like all four of us were actively working on different puzzles the entire time in order to be successful. For reference, we finished in 40 minutes with no hints (while we’ve finished quickly before, having done so with no hints was something that’s never happened).
Also, while there were multiple rooms, this shrouded the fact that the rooms themselves were very small - potentially why it felt like there weren’t many puzzles / red herrings. In terms of combined space, it felt smaller than escape rooms I’ve done with one room.
This would all still be OK, if it wasn’t for the fact that this was the most expensive room I’ve ever done! (and I have done many in Manhattan). At $50 per person, given all of the above, it felt like it wasn’t worth the value. Perhaps with just 2 people, you might’ve gotten more bang for your buck. There are a couple cheaper spots in LA that don’t have the same polish but have a much more in depth...

Read moreHad a great time here! My girlfriend and I did the Pirate themed escape room and had an absolute blast. They put “no touch” signs on stuff that isn’t part of the game, which I really appreciated. That’s definitely an issue I’ve had at other escape rooms where it’s very unclear what’s part of the puzzle and what isn’t. It was my girlfriend’s first time doing an escape room, and I thought this room was a great mix of challenging for people who have some experience, but enough of an intro for beginners to help them get a hang of it.
Now, on to the best part of the escape room - our game master! We had Chiedza, and she was AWESOME! She was very helpful with her hints, and even joked around with us a little bit on the message screen where the hints popped up. We were laughing the whole time we were in there, even when we were frustrated. As we were walking back to the car, we were already talking about which one we want to do next.
Chiedza - I hope we get you for...
