This is your standard traditional no frills mom and pop sushi restaurant. They’ve been on Sawtelle for over 20 years and is by far the best quality and bang for your buck sushi on the block. It’s embarrassing how much my partner and I come here, to the point where the sushi chefs and our fave waitress, Yaoi (spelling?) knows our orders the moment we walk in. My partner is vegan and we come here in particular because their veggie rolls and veggies tempura is the best on the street. I eat fish so, sushi is of course a given.

Since finding out about this place several years back, this is my goto Sushi Restaurant in town. Truthfully, this is by no means a Nobu sushi restaurant but you get quality just the same. This place is entirely CASH only (like many asian stores/restaurants). You order off of a paper sheet or at the sushi bar and get served the best cuts of tuna, yellowtail, salmon, uni, you name it.

Come early and put your name on the list cause their wait is always at least 30 min most days. You’ll be able to get seated quickly during most off hours 2-5pm.

Now, COVID safety is a must for me. Hide team took the most precaution out of any other restaurant i’ve seen. Closed for over a year during the height of the pandemic and once they re-opened seating indoors with some spare seating outside was very distance and limited. Even now that they’ve opened to more capacity they have dividers between the tables. Bussers come immediately to clear the table and spray throughly with 90% alcohol. I feel entirely safe dining here and even ordering to-go on many occasions.

Love this place, i’ll be a patron here for many...

I did love coming here until tonight. The restaurant had a few open tables for two available and 3 parties of 3 waiting. The manager was unwilling to combine tables to sit 3 of us because there would be one extra chair left, but wanted us to sit at a small table for 2, which we had no choice, so I sat uncomfortably at a table of 2. Oddly, there was a table that could fit 5 people but only had 3 individuals sitting, so not sure why she was so concerned over one extra chair. I felt discriminated. The manager (older Japanese Lady) did not budge and even had the nerve to tell me to go to another restaurant if I did not want to sit at a small table. I would've walked out, but kept my cool as I was with my dad and son. The silly thing is shortly after sitting, two tables that sit 3-4 opened up and remained opened during my entire dinner. She could’ve had easily accommodated me, but she was very rigid. Never once did she apologize. I do have to give credit that the service was good, but I’m upset at how unreasonable she was. I oftentimes come here and waited 15-30 mins when they are extremely busy with no issues, but this is the last time I will visit this place. I love the old school Japanese style restaurant, but I could still go to Noshi or Little...

This is undoubtedly one of worst sushi joints I visited in years and I had them all over Asia and US. I've been to places with bad food or bad service but this place wins both.

Right off the bat, the waiter messed up my order. I ordered sushi and was given cut roll. Replaced but no apology at all not even a "sorry", which is ridiculously un-Japanese.

Ordered sashimi, which was very saggy, and served with pretty hot rice. Is this traditional? I seemed to remember this is a big NO NO. I read comments fish is fresh here. Are we talking about the same place? Yes better than supermarket but if you have Japanese nationals eating at this place, they would have puked and demand apology given the price point. I had much fresh sushi in Diamond bar for 40% less price and they never served hot rice with sashimi.

To put a cherry on a sundai, I gave $80 cash for a $50 $bill and the waiter (the same guy who messed up my order), had the audacity to ask "Do you want change?"

If you have zero respect for money and likes to get disrespected, this is a great restaurant.

Friendly advice, if a restaurant has an ATM inside, just avoid it regardless what reviews say. Cash only is clearly for a reason.

This restaurant would get -1 star...
