A nice Mexican lunch or dinner option in Japan-centered Sawtelle. It’s very casual on the inside both in vibe and dress code. They also have a very large bar on one side and the other side will be the restaurant where we had our dinner. I will say that it is a bit over expensive, but the food taste and quality really was great. Our server was polite, although he didn’t really check in on us aside from taking our order and bringing the check. They don’t have a parking lot so it will be metered street parking which can be difficult to find in this part of town because theneighborhood behind Sawtelle Boulevard have parking restrictions unless you have a parking pass.
We decided to order a mix of items because it was our first time. We started with the Guacamole, which was great as expected, but it was very small in size. We liked the flavors, but honestly, they should’ve given a larger portion. I felt overcharged for this one. Next came the Lobster Aguachile and I thought this one was my least favorite. It should’ve had more lobster and I felt there was way more liquid than anything else. I would skip this one and not recommend. Next came the Hamachi Sashimi and this one was actually very good. It was a good sized portion and tasted fresh and light and it is a great summer dish. Next were the Chilean Salmon Tacos, and I thought these were fantastic, probably my favorite dish of the night. The sauce on top really made it and it was a perfectly cooked piece of fish. For entrées we ordered the Crispy Skin Branzino and the Papa Flautas. The Crispy Skin Branzino was fantastic, the skin was perfectly crispy, and it was a good sized portion although the salsa verde on the bottom was not my favorite. The Papas Flautas were actually terrific and the avocado ranch really made it. I would order it again just for that sauce.
Overall, a really solid meal although more expensive than it should be. I would suggest stopping in if you want to have a drink while you eat or just plan to order to two items...
Read moreWent in last night. Friend took me because work had recently had their party there and they had a great time. Unfortunately we didn't have a reservation and they were gracious enough to accommodate us in the back bar section. Now the place is beautifully decorated and the vive is awesome with a dj playing. But those bar chairs are a back killer, more for looks than comfort. We ordered two carnitas and birria tacos. The carnitas were amazing and the birria tacos were just super salty, skip those. Through our 30-40 minutes in the bar the hostess was cleaning glasses in the bar next to us, and saw us there waiting to see if something opened up but never sat us in any of the 3 empty two person tables we saw. We called it a night and wish we could enjoyed more of the food but those uncomfortable stools are not meant for you to sit through a meal. We asked about the tables that were empty the entire time and she said management required her to keep them for reservations for 30 minutes. On top of that, my carnitas tacos which were listed for $12 on the menu where charged as 18 they fixed it but a 6 dollar jump in one night for price change? And to top it off, they charge a fee for employee benefits that the owner has deemed fit for their...
Read moreWe walked by on our way to Somi Somi one random (taco) Tuesday night and saw this place HOPPIN’ with people, music, and lights so we knew we had to come try. We’ve now been twice and I’m itching to go again! They have created the best outdoor space with fires, heaters, and twinkle lights. It’s so cozy and welcoming. The bao buns, guacamole, & wings are incredible appetizers. The cocktails (& mocktails!) are on point. But, surprisingly, I think they claim the title of my favorite fish tacos in LA? All the tacos are good, but this is what I’m craving to return for. My photos are from June, when we went last in late November all menu items were served in disposable containers. I know that bothers some people to no end, so just a fair warning. I didn’t mind at all. The tres leches is very good, I would definitely get it the first time you go. But there are many great dessert places nearby so next time evaluate if you’d rather have fish cone soft serve from Somi Somi, cream puffs from Beard Papa, or crème brûlée crepes from millet crepes. God I...
