Not going to lie but the food was good (not delicious but ok) and they give you a good portion for the prices. Now CUSTOMER SERVICE is horrendous!!!! I asked for a booth right when I got there for 4 people and right away the guy there (I believe he’s the owner or manager, he’s pretty tall) said we couldn’t because there wasn’t room. There was literally 3 empty booths there! Fine, I dropped it. At about 7:20 a couple came in and right off the bat the same guy told them that they closed at 8pm so they wouldn’t have time for dine in. When the couple said why they wouldn’t be able to still do dine in when they clearly had 40 minutes left, the tall guy literally said, “Than you can do takeout and if you don’t like it you can leave.” As for us at 7:40 he was already bringing the takeout boxes and check. We weren’t even done. He never checked up on us, never asked if all was well or if we needed anything, and was overall rude with the little bit of clients he had, and was even using the vacuum right near us. We couldn’t enjoy the food and our get together. Even after all that he still expected us to tip him $25. He actually told me that was a separate “bill” apart from the food and the “dine-in charge” (Yeah they charge you extra if you want to eat inside) Overall I recommend anyone to go anywhere else but here, take your money elsewhere and support a restaurant where they actually care about their...

Is it bad that I hate eating at bad restaurants but I like that I can write 1 or 2 star reviews to fill those low star quotas? I have a problem. Do you think this too? First world problems. "So much food here and I want to eat bad food just so I can write about it!"

Grease Monkey

No, not the oil change place...I mean the dishes, but not the monkey dishes, that only happens in Indiana Jones movies. You know, "Doctor Jones! Doctor Jones!" Indie goes to a Indian palace and eats monkey eye balls out of a monkey skull. Good stuff. Unlike how good those eyeballs probably were, dishes at Hong Kong BBQ were not as good. Everything was so greasy I could have drained out every dish and poured it into my cars gas tank and it would run. I think I just shaved off like 5 years of my life for eating here. Arteries officially clogged. Don't be fooled by my awesome photos, all that glistening food is just the gallon of vegetable oil they pour on top of each dish.

Chinese's "New" Means Changing Names

Man they fooled me good, I thought it was a "new" restaurant on Yelp but turns out it's just the old Sam Woo in Chinatown but they changed names. It's still that dirty old location where food is all over the ground and you want to bring your own chair and table covers so you don't have to touch anything in the restaurant.

I...

Hong Kong BBQ Restaurant in Chinatown, Los Angeles, is a haven for those craving authentic Cantonese cuisine, particularly their standout dish – the succulent and flavorful roast duck.

Walking into this cozy eatery, the aromas of roasting meats immediately entice the senses. The ambiance might be simple, but the focus is undoubtedly on the quality and taste of the food. The star of the show, their roast duck, is impeccably prepared – crispy skin with a tender, juicy interior bursting with aromatic flavors. The seasoning is well-balanced, enhancing the natural richness of the duck without overpowering it.

Aside from the delectable duck, the menu offers an array of classic Cantonese barbecue items, showcasing perfectly charred pork, crispy pork belly, and savory soy chicken. Each dish demonstrates the mastery of traditional cooking techniques and attention to detail.

The service at Hong Kong BBQ Restaurant is friendly, although the place can get quite busy during peak hours, leading to longer waiting times. Prices are reasonable, considering the quality and portion sizes.

For lovers of authentic Cantonese BBQ, Hong Kong BBQ Restaurant in Chinatown is a must-visit. While it might not boast a fancy setting, the exceptional taste of their roast duck alone makes it a gem worth discovering in the heart of Los...

EDIT: two years later, this place has lost a star for me. They still advertise lunch specials but you have to explicitly ask for them, and the "lunch specials" menu STARTS at $16 for the more basic rice plates. I'd estimate prices have gone up by about 25-30% in the last two years, plus now they add a mandatory "House Service Charge" of 3%. Service is what you'd expect in Chinatown, I feel, but maybe not as friendly as the last time I was here. The food is solid, I got the roast (crispy skin) pork rice plate, though disappointed it came with cabbage instead of bok choy as pictured on the menu. What can I say I just feel really disappointed this time and don't enjoy being nickel and dimed with service charges for my meal. original review from March 2022: I got the beef and tofu rice plate. They asked me if I wanted fried or plain tofu, which was nice, and out came the most ginormous rice plate I have ever seen in my life (and I've had many!). Only quibble is that they advertise lunch specials before 3pm on their signs outside, but apparently they don't automatically give you the lunch menu, you have to specifically ask for it. I find this bizarre. But even the regularly priced rice plate I had was a good value so I can't complain.
