I visited Hop Wu today and ordered a combination lunch and half a pound of chatsu (barbecue pork) to go. When U was handed the bill, I paid $23 and added a tip. A friend asked why the amount was so high. It turns out that I was given a pound, not half pound of pork. The woman pretended the order was just slight above half a pound. The order weighed .92 which is almost a pound. I need to point out that none of the booths were occupied. As I have pointed out in previous reviews, if you dine in, food is served in Styrofoam dishes and cups. This place has been in decline since the pandemic and offers little value for what they charge and what you receive. Couple this with the fact that today's incident attests to the flagrant dishonesty of this establishment. Hop Wu needs to make a concerted effort to save itself.

I started revisiting Hop Wu a few months ago but strictly for takeout. Today, I decided eat in. The prices for lunch have gone up but not drastically so. However, during the so-called pandemic, the owners started using plastic lids in lieu of actual plates and really cheap quality plastic ware.
Today, soup was served in a Styrofoam cup and accompanied by a cheap quality plastic teaspoon. A huge improvement is that an actual plate was provided along with a stainless steel fork. No chop sticks were offered. The lunches also no longer include an egg roll though they include soup if you dine in.
Unfortunately, this restaurant's brand screams frugal not a reputation any business should strive for. This place needs to rethink how it wishes to be seen.

I returned and found they stopped using plastic take out boxes in which to serve entrees but they continue providing plastic forks and spoons with which to eat with. This is not an inexpensive restaurant so I don't know if their theme is 3rd world but they need to fix it. The waitresses are mostly helpful but the husband and wife owners...
Read moreHi guys! Its the beginning of the year! New years will soon be here for Chinatown. So we decided to go visit our beloved spot. It's been a while. I just want to say how decorative this restaurant is! I love all the lanters, chandelier details they have. Very nice atmosphere for a Date or for Family time. We were welcomed in by 2 women. They were full of smiles and hospitality. They guided us to our booth. They started us out with Tea. We love the menu lots to choose from. We chose fried rice, Orange Chicken, egg drop soup and one other item. The fried rice was delicious. I asked to make the Orange Chicken Crunchy. It was cery great breading, with a slither of chicken. Very tasty! The egg drop soup had a good amount of ingredients with the perfect amount of broth. I really liked that the Service was Friendly! They dont hesitate to check up on you if you need something. From beginning to end they offered us different things while we visited. They even boxed up our food & soup! This restaurant does have a 2 stall bathroom for the ladies. Also has a bathroom for the men. You can buy fresh juice at this location. Thats one of the things i liked about it. We were able to eat in peace, and enjoy a family meal with No problems. Very Positive atmosphere, with beautiful Art on the walls. I would recommend this for family, friends and date nights! Enough seating to go around for everyone! Im sure there is street parking. But like anyplace downtown you have to find it close by. You can also take a walk on the chinatown strip to see cool stores for food, local bakeries, Herbal Nutrition products, And fun items and souvenirs to remember your trip! From what the women told us Chinese New Year Event is February 10th. They have something around Noon to late night hours. I hope if you do visit you check out Hop Woo! I know...
Read moreThe experience was surreal. It was a blessing to find a place that was open past 11:30, although the experience was very unwelcoming. My buddies and I got a scornful look from the waiters as we walked in, but it didn't matter; we were hungry. This hunger made us oblivious to the fact that the plates and silverware that we got were covered in smudges, and that the restaurant was... eerie (maybe just after midnight though). When the young man came to take our drink orders, we asked for four waters, and they came out with two waters and a sprite. I'm not sure if they misinterpreted what we said, or if they were trying to charge extra to the bill. We ordered five dishes, but the last one never got to the table. This was actually good luck, because there were already four massive heaps of food on the table. The one dish that was surprisingly good was the beef chow fun ($7.25 for a huge plate), but the rest were bland. When we asked for the bill, the waiter didn't look us in the eye and grunted at us. The bill did not have any mistakes, accounting for the missing food and the sprite we had to send back. We counted our money while the waiter stood over our table watching us (???) and before we were done, the waiter angrily reminded us to give her $48 when only $40 was down at the moment. I'll just say that were glad to leave safely.
Pros: Portion sizes, speed, open late Cons: Weird service,...
