I have eaten at this particular restaurant only once. Can you guess why?
Let me start by saying that I am not a pancake fan, so maybe mine isn't the best advice to follow if you're fond of flat, doughy disc-shaped syrup sponges. My wife enjoys flapjacks (but loathes pancakes; she's more confused about this than you are right now), and she didn't hate her breakfast.
However, if you are a big breakfast fan with a taste for anything but pancakes, you're better off going to Denny's... or the nearest dumpster. I mean really: how can anyone get bacon and eggs wrong? I know it seems impossible to ruin something as simple as that, but IHOP found a way. Maybe their chefs are graduates of a mechanics trade school or had their taste buds surgically removed or altered in some hideous hipster procedure designed to increase one's resistance to torture via food, but they couldn't have attended a culinary school. Unless it was in England.
My eggs were crispy, which is a very bad sign when you order them sunny side up. The bacon was both dry and greasy. Yes, I know that sounds impossible, but somehow IHOP found a way. The sausages were dry and flavorless other than a soupcon of sawdust, which was telling, and not in a good way. Even the coffee was subpar and was reminiscent of a concoction a genius high school friend of mine created as a laxative to torture the senior government.
Please, if you have taste buds that my old friend hasn't destroyed with one of his ghastly creations, drive right past IHOP and you'll find a Denny's farther down Manchester. Or better yet, keep going north on Sepulveda and you'll see Dinah's on your left before too long, where you can find food that is considerably more than merely...
Read moreMy husband and I took a super early flight to LA for a quick, spontaneous weekend trip. On our way to the hotel, we stopped here for breakfast. Parking was free, and several spots were available, which was great because we were tired and hungry, and it was already hot outside.
We were greeted and seated immediately. The restaurant was clean already full of hungry patrons. Our waiter was quick to the table, very nice and took our order. Our coffee came out minutes later...yaay, with our food quickly following. Looked great! That's the fastest service ever at IHOP. Unfortunately, after 2 bites, I realized my hash browns were luke warm and mushy. The eggs were warm, not hot, and the bacon was also cold and chewy. It was almost as if a lot of our food had been made earlier and was sitting under a heat lamp waiting to be plated on an order.
We ate and left. I'm not sure if this was their normal or just a one-off type thing. And as much as I appreciate the promptness of our food coming out so fast, we would have much preferred waiting a few extra minutes to have it...
Read moreWorst service we've ever had! The person who sat us asked us for our order when she brought the coffee, but we'd just sat so we asked for a couple of minutes.Ten minutes later there were two workers who worked very hard not to make eye contact and eventually went in to the kitchen at which point there was no one in the front, no hostess no servers just the 6 patrons that were in the place to include my husband and I so 4 tables total. Someone else came in and waited for a couple of minutes before walking to the kitchen to locate an employee. At this point I just wanted to pay for the half cup of coffee I'd drank and leave, but there was no one to pay so we waited and FINALLY the guy that went to the kitchen to fetch someone came back with the lady who sat us. She then tried to convince us to stay at which point I just told her we were going to McDonald's for better customer service because I...
