Ike's Love & Sandwiches — Restaurant in Los Angeles

Once again, this place is a FAIL. I have tried to eat here 4 times and always have one simple request that I ask for in the nicest way possible - "Please toast the bread. I do not want the bread to be soft, I want the bread toasted and crispy because I may save half of this sandwich for later and do not want it to get soggy."

They never ever ever ever do it. It's like they don't understand the concept that some people in the world like their sandwich toasted to a crisp. This has happened 4 different times and I've come to the conclusion that they literally do not care what you ask for - they will just make it however they want and pretty much ignore you. Don't even bother trying to make any modifications to your order - they do not care.

Today, I happened to be near them and thought I would give them another shot and specifically explain that I would like the bread toasted. Once again, my sandwich didn't even look like it was lightly toasted. It actually felt like the girl who took my order purposely did not follow directions. Also, her customer service was TERRIBLE. Dry, unwelcoming, and made me feel like I was irritating before I even ordered. She clearly did not want to be there which is why I know she specifically ignored what I asked for. Sorry, but I didn't think simply asking for my sandwich to be toasted was that complex or demanding. I’ve been coming to Ike’s for over 14 years & used to frequent the original San Francisco location. I’m really happy they have opened up a new location in the marina just a few minutes from my place! Ike’s a sandwich genius & in my opinion has created the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. My favorite is the Lincecum with everything on it Ham, turkey, bacon, avocado, havarti, lettuce, tomato, dirty sauce on Dutch crunch bread. They don’t carry havarti at a lot of the SoCal locations so I sub for swiss & ask for extra dirty sauce on the side that I dip the sandwich into. It’s absolutely perfect. I also really love the Rueben that’s wonderful as well. There are hundreds to choose from so really if this sandwich isn’t a 100/100 then you just didn’t order the right one! Anyways highly recommended best...

Today was my first time stopping by Ike's but it most definitely will not be my last! Jake greeted me with the friendliest smile and answered every question I had as a new customer. Believe me I had a lot! He even gave me his favorite order after my probing. *The Menage a trois with french bread, lettuce, red onion, pickles and banana peppers. His genuineness and energy told me I could trust him, so I ordered and joked that I knew where he worked if he led me astray. I am happy to report that Jake told no lies. The sandwich was AMAZING!!!! I also got the Hollywood's SF cheesesteak for my husband. He also loved his choice. I ended up buying two combos. I look forward to returning. I hope Jake is working...
