Ok this place was so delicious! The sushi was all tasty and not bland. If you order via the tablet on top the food is obviously more fresh.
CONS
Due to covid you must sign in to be on the waiting list. However the only way to get on the waiting list is to DOWNLOAD THE KURA APP, SIGN UP FOR THEIR EMAILS, VERIFY EMAIL AND PHONE NUMBER and only then can you join the wait-list. So if you just get there but someone gets there and signs up quicker then you can technically have them cut you in line.
PROs Depending on the time you get there even tho the expected wait time may say an hour or 40 minutes it all depends on table availability inside and whether people actually are around to hear their name and number called. So my party of 3 only waited about 10 minutes rather than the expected 40.
We ate a LOT! Once you got 15 plates you get a cute gashapon gift. 🍣✨ mystery gift 🎁 We went during the sanrio collaboration so we got a couple of pins and a keychain! They were so nice to let us all have a gift.
CONS
It's easy to forget each plate is a certain price. So in total our bill was very expensive. We each paid about $37 including tip. So our total was above $100. For a revolving sushi.
Vegan options and vegetarian options are very limited so keep that in mind as well since we had a vegetarian in our party.
Overall I enjoyed this experience. It is very interactive and it was all out first...
Read moreFor conveyor belt sushi, Kura is easy and delicious. Most plates are $2.75 and have two nigiri per plate. Other specialty items such as calamari tempura, ramen, udon and fried chicken are $3.50 or more. I prefer to order on the touch screen monitor above the table. The order will zip to you on the top conveyor. The wasabi is really good...they use fresh grated wasabi along with the wasabi paste.
Recommended sushi:
Seared scallop with mayo Negitoro handroll Seared mackerel sushi Yellowtail sushi Spider handroll
Beer is fair price.
The environment is a bit run down, but it’s conveyor belt sushi...that’s part of the ambience.
Lines are always long. BUT...Big time tip...download the kura app and you can place your name on the waitlist and they will provide you with expected wait time. You will also receive a text alert that let’s you know when to be at the restaurant. It helps you to use your time and go shopping for dollar stuff at daiso or check out art at GR2 gallery.
Note on the weekends and dinner time...wait time can be over 1.5 hours, so download the app, so you can put your name on the waitlist before you leave home.
This place is also great for kids and families. Every fifteen plates that you finish, you receive a prize. It’s usually Washi tape or cute little...
Read moreSomething's up with this place. We went to the sawtelle location last night for the first time in a while. There are noticeable differences. To begin with, prices have literally doubled. $6 for two pieces of mochi ice cream? That's absurd. And the conveyor belt items have gone from $2.25 a few months ago to over $3. When we started eating there, it was $1.75 per plate. The food has changed, and not for the better. Favorite items were greatly diminished. The spicy tuna in my spicy tuna roll and on my crispy rice seemed to have been made in a food processor or something. The texture was way too creamy. I wouldn't order them again. They've added these funny little robots that deliver drinks, but all that means is that the robots sloshes liquid all over the restaurant and once you sit down, you never see your server again. Of course you're still expected to tip 20%, but that's a whole other issue. The videos that play when you deposit your plates have now all been changed to videos that just promote the restaurant and the prizes that used to drop down no longer do. I guess those machines are broken or something? Anyway, we will not be back. It seems to be under new ownership or something and it's...
