La Chuperia #1 — Restaurant in Los Angeles

After looking at the good ratings and reviews, I decided to give it a TRY; looks pretty sketchy from the outside, but not bad after all. It is very small inside, but was able to find somewhere to sit right away. I went to order a "Ballena" which is basically a michelada with the big caguamas in it, but I also ordered a Shock Top. I was given a number, and after about 15 minutes I was given the "ballena." I told the server that I was still missing my Schock Top and she went on to say that she was sure she had already given it to me. I told her that she had not given it to me yet which she kept insisting that she was sure she did. At that point I was extremely upset because everyone around me was just staring. As she walked away from me, I told her that I needed my Schock Top to complete my order to which she said that she must have NOT been the person to have taken my order. Like really? By her telling me that she made me think that she does not pay attention to her customers; YET she proud proudfully grabbed the $7 tip I gave her on a $25 bill. After she started serving me another drink, I went on to respectfully tell her to PLEASE check the cameras as I hate when people think I'm lying. She simply said " I DON'T CARE" and tossed my beer. The place is a hole in the wall bar/lounge with a lay back feeling. The service is handled by one bartender. This does not stop the service from being excellent. I've eaten hear twice and the food was great the first time, but the second was okay. The first time I ordered the nachos with carne asada. These were delicious! The food was piled up high as a mountain on top of a layer of nachos. The second time I ordered the nachos again, but instead of carne asada I chose pastor. The nachos did come piled up but seem that the chips over power the ingredients. The pastor seem to be ground beef in some light seasoning. The pastor just didn't have much flavor. I also would of expected some Pineapple but there was none. I will return again for the nachos and try the chicken. The one thing that stayed consistent in both visit was the great bartender/host and the micheladas. The michelada was not too salty and the spice just right. This drink is a must try. I have been wanting to stop by this bar for a while now and got the opportunity the other night. I ordered 3 micheladas and nachos and total was around $80+. The bar is very dirty looking and was already regretting convincing friends to go in for drinks when I had to use the restroom, I was washing my hands in the sink right next to kitchen when I seen roaches on the paper towels. When I got to table a huge platter of some slop that was the nachos had arrived and friends had already started eating them. My drink hadn’t been brought to the table so I canceled my michelada and ordered a bottle water because by than I was grossed out imagining the roach infestation they must have in kitchen and apartments on second floor.
