Pillars Café is the brand new cafe (with attached bookstore) at Shepherd Church, across the street from Walmart on Rinaldi. As of this review, they have been open just a couple of weeks. And I'll state for the record here at the top...I attend Shepherd, but this review will be as objective as possible.
MENU As of now, Pillars is still in their "soft open" period; they are adding and rotating menu items as they figure out what will become permanent menu fixtures. They feature cooked-to-order breakfast and lunch items from their full service kitchen--not just pre-made grab-and-go items. So far, omelettes, huevos rancheros, turkey clubs, and brioche sliders are among the made-to-order menu items. The bacon burger is excellent!
They also feature Copa Vida coffee and espresso drinks for coffee connoisseurs. Personally, I prefer carbonated drinks, so the self-serve Pepsi Spire machines with additional flavor shots have been fun to experiment with.
AMBIENCE Pillars is nice inside with many tables, two large family tables, and a couple of more plush seating areas with couches and arm chairs. But it's the outside areas that make Pillars so unique. There are tables near a bubbling water wall under a giant "jumbrella", a fire table with cushioned bench seating, and three fire pits with Adirondack chairs. On nicer Southern California days, the outdoor areas are where you'll want to be.
Pillars also plans to feature live bands in the future.
SERVICE Super friendly. :-)
WIFI Free!

Read moreI ordered a breakfast burrito since reviews had positive things to say about it. The composition of the burrito sounded appetizing, but I unfortunately never got a chance to determine if it was good because I was given an omelet instead. When I brought this to their attention, the server showed their kitchen ticket, which had an omelet order on it. Off the bat, I was disappointed the cashier did not take my order correctly, but decided that if the omelet was good, then it would still have been worth visiting. Disappointingly, the omelet was on par with the service, poor. It was boring and lacked flavors that one could expect in a good omelet, literally had only two other ingredients other than egg if you count chives. Additionally, the omelet is about half the size of other omelets from other cafes and breakfast joints, probably because it lacked any other interesting or hearty ingredients.
I can't recommend this place due to a lack of order accuracy and disappointing food quality. You would be much better off eating at another breakfast joint or cafe where they'll get your order correct and the food will be both interesting and delicious. Was a truly bad way to start my day with a lackluster meal,...
Read moreOrdered a sandwich at 13:50, girl on the phone told me it'll be ready in 10 minutes, l arrived at 14:05, the cashiers/ workers locked the doors and when I tried to talk to them they completely ignored me. Literally made eye contact with the worker and she didn't even bother to have any sort of communication. I suggest management to rethink about the employment of said workers (I don't know their name). This is absolutely unacceptable. I wasted gas just to come here. On the phone the girl did not tell me that they're closing in 10 minutes (the time when the sandwich was ready for pick up according to her). I'd like to add that as someone who works in food service, when you close a place, you close the orders, you don't physically lock the place immediately as you need to do a proper closing (cleaning) and also allow diners to finish their food / allow customers pick up their orders that were made before closing time. This is really unfortunate. The lack of communication...
