Honestly, I want to give Queen’s a 5 star. We’ve been here several times and the experience has been epic. This review is based on my last experience.
Walking in, we were greeted by the host. I booked reservations for indoor dining but she recommended outdoor, the weather was prime and we agreed and were happy we did. The breeze and their music selection closed the deal. An old school jam, ABC - Jackson 5 was playing as we were being seated. We were feeling the vibe.
It didn’t take long for our server to appear and ask us if we wanted water or maybe a little something harder. He mentioned a special on martinis. 10 bucks. So we opted for both, martinis and mineral water.
Looking through the menu, there were some standouts: Oysters, halibut crudo, shrimp cocktail, their house salad, a chicken dish and black cod. Drinks were served shortly after and we made our order. I gotta say the $10 martini went down extremely well.
Food? The oysters were heaven. Tasted like they were picked right out of the sea, the vinegar sauce was a nice complement with a spritz of lemon. East coast oysters. The shrimp cocktail? This was our only downer. Although the dipping sauce was excellent, the shrimp prepared perfectly… it was extremely over seasoned. It was hard to get down, and good thing that the halibut crudo came out right after! Exceptionally dish, fresh with a citrus sauce, very pleasant dish. Shortly after the salad came out, damn good. Then the chicken and black cod on rice. Lemme say, that black cod elevated me from the first bite, the outer texture was crispy, but once you bit through that it melted in your mouth, the rice complimented the fish well - seasoned to perfection. The chicken was a close second, crispy outer with a moist inner, it came with really tasty and crispy fries - the dipping sauce was 🔥 . With the exception of the shrimp the meal was sublime.
Stand outs: oysters, black cod, chicken, raw halibut.
Why 4 stars? A significant part of the dining experience is the service you are provided. Our server appeared inexperienced and not very personable, but to his credit we was very young. I would think an establishment like this would provide more seasoned staff. Also consider, be prepared to spend some $. We’ve been here 3 times, and for a party of 2: with appetizers, drinks and a couple mains the check has always exceeded 3 bills. For the culinary experience and ambience I do not mind the price of admission. Service is usually on point.
Either way, for any seafood lover in the area, this establishment should be in your hit list. We will continue to...
Read moreWe had a really delicious dinner here from the same owners of The Lonely Oyster. It’s a south eastern inspired seafood restaurant with a large bar in the middle and rotating sharesize plates. The only issue we had is we both are taking an alcohol cleanse so we wanted to order iced teas but they don’t have that. Then we tried to order Coke, but they only have Diet Coke. If you’re ordering alcohol you have many options, but in terms of nonalcoholic drinks, they are really limited. Aside from that our server was very polite and everything arrived fairly quickly. There is a parking lot right out front, but it only has room for about 8 to 10 spaces, otherwise it will be valet or free street parking.
They have a fairly large menu filled with all sorts of great options so we really had to take some time to choose what we wanted to order. We started off with the Hush Puppies, which were a great start and as good as expected. Next came a personal favorite of mine, the She Crab Soup. I have spent a lot of time in the Carolinas so it was great to have this again. Next came the Bluefin Tostada, and it was very light, fresh, and filled with flavor. After that came Hamachi, which was also light, fresh, and very good, which was followed by the Oysters Casino and the Crispy Brook Trout, which was my favorite dish of the night. The trout was extremely crispy, but still filled with lemony flavor, and I honestly loved every bite.
Overall, we really had a great dinner here and it’s easily one of our favorite places in Eagle Rock. I would definitely recommend to anyone searching for a great seafood dinner and it would be especially great for a date or dinner with...
Read moreI believe the owners are the same folks that have/had a place in Silverlake, so I was somewhat expecting the pricing to be over market. Honestly it was vastly over market. $5 an oyster is absurd - but they were good though we only had 4 because, well, $20 for 4 oysters hits my absurdity-in-pricing marker pretty hard. Same with entrees and wine - I'd put the mark up on seafood around 25/30% more than other places. I actually asked where they get their sea food because I often shop for fish at Pacific Fresh downtown and have a pretty decent understanding of market prices. (By the way, you'll often see the Fish King and Santa Monica Seafood trucks there if you're interested in seeing what the markup is etc.) The waiter said they get their fish from a local market in Santa Monica. Let me say the food was quite good, the crispy trout was absolutely excellent, but at nearly $60 I think it was, it better be. Don't think I saw a bottle of wine under $55. The room is great and hey, they've got to pay for it, but in the end it's just far more expensive than most places. I'm probably interpreting this wrong, but I like that they add 20% to the bill as a "service charge". Like Sugar Fish, I took this as an auto tip, though they had a line for "additional tip", but again, at these prices, 20% on top of everything else...
