Either yesterday or today I watched an Instagram reel about Koreatown raw soy marinated crab. It was from a located I had frequented before. Needless to say, I got home from work and I could not get raw spicy and soy marinated crab out of my head. I just had to have. I decided to skip my Monday night boxing class and instead eat a lot of Korean food. I Googled some places and wondered which one I should go to. I wondered if Postmates could deliver something to my apartment so that I don’t have to venture out to Koreatown again, especially at night. Postmates doesn’t deliver raw soy crab, but they did have spicy crabs. But I wanted BOTH. I decided to try Rich Crab. I had never been there before. I decided to order to go and then went to go pick it up myself. The parking is valet but I let him know I’m just picking up and he was real nice about it. I walked in and was greeted by two people. They were super nice and friendly. I took the food back home in my corvette in the trunk space. I got home and put my dog away in his crate. I opened up the food and everything was just so neatly and well packaged. One time I had ordered soy crab to go and the particular restaurant did a sloppy packaging job so I spilled in my corvette front passenger carpet floor and the smell lasted three or four car details. But nothing spilled from here as the packaging was meticulous. I had the combo B small. Seafood soup, kimchi pancake, soy crab, spicy crab, purple rice, side dishes. Everything tasted perfect. The Korean food at Rich Crab is no nonsense authentic Korean food. This is coming from a girl who grew up eating soy crab at home from a home recipe (grandma’s recipe from South Korea ChoongChungDo). I would get jars of soy crab and sometimes eat it daily until it was done so I have plenty of years of eating soy crab. There’s nothing else for me to say. The food here doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. It’s not pretentious it’s just Korean and I respect it a lot. Needless to say I will be going here again. I even had to call them back to say thank you and I enjoyed the meal, I’ll leave a review and I’ll be back again. They were super nice and appreciative of the call too....
Read moreA friend and I came on a rainy evening because our usual Gejang place was closed - and by chance, it was the best thing we decided!
We ordered the set A combo, which came with spicy crab stew on a propane burner (it had two whole crabs, one blue one flower I think), kimchi jeon, one soy sauce crab and a small order of spicy marinated crabs. Every single dish, even the banchan were all so delicious (we ate all the banchan clean). Compared to our other haunt, their gejang had much less cinnamon but were so delicious in comparison. Flavorful and aromatic, but not so much so that it's too intense. I need to come back for their gejang, eating out of the shell was an experience. We also ordered an extra portion of spicy crabs because my friend fell in love with the sauce (it's like gochujang but a bit spicier, and more full bodied), and it was considerably bigger than the portion that came with the meal set, but we couldn't finish it anyway lol.
Since it was late (they close at 930pm, we got there a little after 830ish), it was just the old couple there but they were so so helpful and attentive despite the language barrier. They taught us to mix the rice in with the crab innards and to remember to scrape out the golden goodness from the insides, gave us extra banchan and so nicely packaged our leftovers to go. They even taught us how to say tasty in Korean - 맛있어요!!
We'll bring our friends back for sure - this place is family style so get ready to share!! This is probably replacing our old go-to cause it was just so good. Good food...
Read moreAfter 2 years I finally made it back to Rich Crab and I have to say I'm disappointed. We ordered the combo B size S since it's for 2 people and we thought they were going to have 2 soy marinated crab which is what we came for. But it's actually just 1 small soy marinated crab and 1 small spicy marinated crab. The rest of their food is mediocre and the main reason we came is for the soy marinated crab. However, the crab in the combo was tiny, it wasn't even the crab they used to have (which they said it's imported from Korea). The waitress told us that if we ordered the crab a la carte, those crabs would be bigger and the one in the combo was the smaller crab. Well if I had known, I would've ordered a la carte because everything in their combo sucks. The soup is bad and the spicy marinated crab just tasted like spicy sauce. We even paid extra money to upgrade the kimchi pancake to seafood pancake and it was super doughy with no seafood. Probably could've made it better myself at home. It was not worth the price tag we paid for and sadly I don't think I'II be...
