It is painful to have to write this review, but the truth is that last week when my husband and I ventured out to L.A. for some dinner, we were looking for authentic Jamaican food and found this place. We were not ready for the disappointment we faced. We have lived all over the U.S and have visited so many different Jamaican restaurants, that we are quite familiar how Jamaican food is supposed to look and taste. But b a b y ! I am utterly confused as to how this place got such good reviews 😳 I wanted to be nice and that is why I'm giving 2 stars, because the little store inside this restaurant makes up for the disrespect that goes on in this place due to their food. 1st of all, their "natural juices" do not taste like they are home made. Even the Aguas frescas at Mexican restaurants got more flavor (and they are watered down) than this places natural juices. To be honest, their stuff tastes like watered down $1 Minute Maid fruit juice/punch. Now, the food? OMG. From the moment you walk in the door you are confused. I don't think this place is owned by Jamaicans and sadly I don't think any of their cooks are Jamaican either 🥲 If you only eaten Jamaican food at an all you can eat resort in Jamaica or something, then that is probably why you are leaving 5 start reviews for this place. The food here is seasoned but bland at the same time! It is greasy yet dry. I mean, the cabagge was a greasy mess and it was supposed to be steamed. No! The food is not authentic Jamaican food at all and to add insult to injury, it is over priced. After not being able to get thru my dinner, I figured the beef patty would make up for the disappointment I felt, but nope. It was just as disappointing 😞 Please, if you're looking for groceries and spices from the island, this is a good quick stop for that (albeit over priced), buy if you are looking for authentic Jamaican good, please go sit your butt down somewhere else. This place is not it 👎 P.S. their rum cake is...
Read moreI went for the first time today because I have heard good things about it. I ordered the jerk chicken platter with rice/peas and mans veggies. I work across the street so it was convenient. I got my food. The veggies and rice were soaked in sauce which I didn’t like because I have a texture sensitivity. I also noticed the chicken were all the burnt crunchy parts from the grill and it was about 5 burnt cubes of chicken. So I went back and asked for a platter with no rice and fresh chicken as I was spending a decent price for the platter. I was immediately attacked and yelled at. She informed me that that’s how they have been doing it for 16 years. And she also accused me of eating the food before returning it with I felt was highly inappropriate and offensive. She was super confrontational even while other customers were there which made me really uncomfortable as I am not a confrontational person at all. I asked for my money back because I didn’t appreciate the way I was treated and was refused a refund but was told she would remake the food. So now I am forced to stay here in the bullying and confrontational situation while I wait for food I no longer wanted. My new order came out and the chicken and veggies were more presentable. It also validated that the first order were scraps and just thrown in a box. I also noticed the first order didn’t have the plantains but the second did. So if I didn’t say anything i would have been shorted on my platter. I never leaves negative reviews everrrrr but the way I was treated as a first time customers was disgusting and I hope after reading this she adjusts her attitude! Thats...
Read moreIf you are looking for a different taste and some really good food then the Sattdown Jamaican Grill is definitely worth a visit. The restaurant is cozy and it is easy to spend a couple of hours there.
HOWEVER.....we had a horrible parking experience. There is not much parking at the plaza of the restaurant, so we had to park on the street next to the plaza. When we got back to our car, there was $75 parking ticket waiting for us AND for the many other cars parked on the street.
A common green sign stated two hour parking. What everybody missed is the usual red sign which commonly states one cannot park between the hours of 1 or 2 am and 5am. This sign was for 8pm-6am. The resident parking officer was waiting for the clock to strike 8pm and start writing parking tickets. The city of LA makes a guaranteed $1000 at least on this street every night. We saw a guy parking his car on the street for 5 minutes only to pick up a pizza at 8.15pm in the same plaza and get a 75 dollar fine!
We feel the owners of the restaurant could/should have been aware of this and made us aware of the street parking, thereby saving us from a bad experience. We would have normally come back to this cool place, but the parking ticket has left us with...
