SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE. Went in on 2/29/24 at 6:02PM - my order was put into the system if management wants to see the awkward position its employees puts its customers.
I walked in and was helped by the bar manager, Guillermo(not sure that’s even his real name; said he was the bar manager), who was REALLY RUDE & NOT COURTEOUS. We were next in line to order as nobody was there, and were being helped by the bar manager standing directly in front of the register at the counter with the bar manager behind the register right in front of us. He didn’t offer any help or assistance at all after we picked up the menu looking to decide what we were going to order. He asked us if we’re ready to order as soon as we looked at the menu, my partner told him she needs a minute. As she’s looking back down at the menu, I tell him I’m ready I know what I want to order. Another customer walked in and was standing behind me. He never tells us do you mind if I take the next customers order while you both decide. He acts as if we’re not standing there or acknowledges that I was ready to order and his whole attention turns to the next customer behind me. He doesn’t say anything more to us and looks over my shoulder as we’re still standing in front of the register and says to the next customer “Are you ready? What can I get for you?” I look over my right shoulder noticing there’s another customer there and the customer looks at me and says “I’m ready, I’m so sorry” apologizing for the weird situation that we were put in. It was completely unnecessary interaction with another customer because the bar manager is not courteous enough to say “excuse me, would you mind stepping to the side while I help the next customer” which I gladly would do. Instead, he had me and the customer looking at each other asking what’s going on and apologizing. The bar manager should have been the one to apologize, not the customer.
He did an absolute horrible job at remedying the situation as he didn’t even try to remedy it and when I called him out on what he did, he was still unapologetic and said he did nothing wrong. Completely disregarding that he made his customer feel some type of way with the subpar customer service and complaint. Complete disregard for constructive criticism of his character. All I’m asking for...
Read moreOK - I love Spitz and used to go there religiously... The fries really are the BEST in town and the lightly caramelized meats are just simply yummy, whether they're in a wrap, a bowl or a salad. Spitz sauces are fresh, thoughtful, spice-combos made right there, in house. The atmosphere is emphatic- it reminds me of Billboard Cafe / San Francisco in the '90s. PLus, Spitz has a M-F Happy Hour from 4-6 that features California craft beers and wine...All sounds awesome, right? Describing all this radness reeaallly makes me want to give it five stars - BUT why ? Why? Why do they hate mustard? Why Spitz?! I used to love ordering a donor combo and adding just a slight bit of the classic yellow, ripping the corner off one of those little packets and tracing a line across my next bite. About a year ago I was told they "no longer offer mustard." and I thought the adorable waiter who said that must just be cuter than he is smart. But on my next visit - it was confirmed by a different cashier. But neither one could tell me why. It can't be some stuffy ethos where they think their delicious sauces don't need embellishment-- because they still offer packets of ketchup. I went home and searched Snopes, thinking maybe there is a mustard boycott! I found nothing. It makes no sense! I was so bummed that I stopped going to Spitz for almost a year. (Really they didn't notice and it was all me who suffered the loss)... Today I was walking past and couldn't help but stop in for a bite. Sure enough -- mustardless! Why? They offer ketchup packets, but none of the yellow stuff. I still very much enjoyed my Street Cart Doner combo without mustard. (Why!?) But there I was thinking about how I shoulda brought those mustard packets from home! If you don't care about mustard, you're lucky and I highly recommend Sptiz. If you're looking for gluten free dairy free vegan options - you gotta try this place! But if you're more like me, you know why just can't do more than three stars for someplace i have to remember to bring my own...
Read moreI've gone to Spitz several times, both at this location and in DTLA. Their food always tastes fresh, yummy, and is served by capable and friendly staff. Tonight was my first time dining-in during the Covid-19 pandemic, when vaccines have been readily available to all...
Frankly, I'm disappointed and a little disgusted--but not by the quality of the food, the bus staff, restaurant premises, or the overall service. Instead, it was something more pernicious. We were a group of four this evening: my roommate, my boyfriend, myself (all white) and another close friend of ours (who is Asian). We all paid separately, we all sat together at a table by a wide-open window. Only one of us was asked to show proof-of-vaccination; being somewhat used to this in LA, he assumed we all had been asked.
On our way out, another couple--a man and woman, also Asian--stopped me and my boyfriend by the exit and asked us: "Hey, just curious. Did they ask you for proof-of-vaccination as well?" We were surprised and bewildered. But my friend spoke up and said, "Oh yeah, I had to show my vaccination card." And then there was a beat. "Wait, they didn't ask you for yours?"
I just don't think this is how it's supposed to be. There's no place for that kind of bias in our...
