The original owner of Three Flames, the woman who owned and ran the place for 50 years, retired and sold the business about 2 months ago. The new owner cleaned up and redecorated what had been a sad, dark little dump with good food, kept the name but changed the menu. Three Flames is now a clean, lively Mexican fusion joint specializing in tasty seafood tacos, hamburgers, and various specials. Only two Mongolian dishes remain on the menu: beef and chicken. Gone is the self-serve vegetable bar with it's dizzying selection of chopped vegetables and flavored oils. Now your Mongolian dish is prepped out-of-sight in the kitchen, half-heartedly cooked on the old circular grill out front, and comes to your table along with two tiny, grudgingly provided plastic thimbles of Mongolian sauce. The portion, though still flavorful, is disappointingly small compared to what you used to get in the old days. The verdict: the old Three Flames is gone. Don't come here for Mongolian, come for the overpriced...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I love Mongolian BBQ and had decided to try this restaurant since it was close to our work place in Inglewood. We usually make the journey down to Manhattan Beach to go to Big Wok restaurant when we want to get our Mongolian BBQ fix. After our experience at Three Flames we will definitely stick to Big Wok. The first thing we noticed at Three Flames was the dingyness of the place, coupled with the over powering smell of some type of bleach based cleaner. Next, the meats are all pre-measured and simple additions like toasted sesame seeds are provided at an extra charge. Another thing I personally cannot stand is sodas that come in a can. I got the impression that Three Flames is more concerned with cost cutting measures than a quality dining experience. My advice is to avoid this place and drive the extra 7 miles to Manhattan Beach and go to Big Wok. Big Wok is clean, no pre-measured meats, free condiments (sesame seeds.. et al), unlimited soda re-fills, and a...
Read moreI have been coming to this place for over 10 years and this place has satisfied my Mongolian BBQ cravings everytime. I grew up with this place and I am always excited for the Shao Bing (fluffy pastry bread with seasame seeds) and Barbra, the owner of the place. When I was growing up, we used to be able to serve how much meat, noodles, and veggies we wanted. Now things have changed and things get more expensive compared to what it used to be. I always have a good experience at this place and Barbra makes it all the more enjoyable. I ordered the one plate trip because more than one for me is way too much. I ordered the regular portion of noodles, added beef ($1 extra), and carrots, spinach, green onions, bean sprouts, and cucumbers. Parking is a little difficult only cause the new bar takes everything up but Barbra reserved as many spots as she could for her customers.
I highly suggest it for the experience and the food. Also they have delicious almond cookies that...
