I have experienced bad service before, but nothing even remotely approaching the disrespectful and reprehensible conduct engaged in by the staff at Uncle Bernie’s Deli.

My sandwich was delivered without the accompaniments identified on the menu. Certainly not a big deal. I casually attempted to flag a waiter or waitress. Over the course of a few minutes, two different waiters and the hostess walked right by my table – I openly waived at all three and, despite looking directly at me as I waived at them, all three looked away and walked right by me. Again, not a huge infraction. Nevertheless, I had no choice but to leave my table and seek out someone to assist me. I walked to the other side of the restaurant and discovered several waitresses sitting together and talking. I asked for assistance, one of them agreed, and I returned to my table.

A few minutes later, I again required assistance from a server. Again, I casually attempted to flag someone to help me. Again, I waived at two different servers. Again, no one responded to my efforts. Again, I was required to leave my table to seek out assistance. By now, I knew exactly where the servers congregate to chit chat. As before, I found several servers sitting together (of note, not the same servers as before). The following conversation ensued with one of the seated waitresses:

Me: I would like to speak with the manager. Her: Ok. Me: Can you direct me to the manager? Her: I don’t know where he is. Me: Can you find him for me? Her: No. Me: You will not find the manager for me? Her: I don’t know where he is. Me: Is he inside the restaurant? Her: Yes. Me: Please direct me to him. Her: I don't know where he is.

We went back and forth a few more times before this spectacularly hostile and disrespectful waitress finally got out of her seat and looked for the manager. As she walked away, she exclaimed: “You are going to be waiting a long time.” Fortunately, and contrary to the waitress’ forecast, the manager was a mere fifteen feet away and not hard to find.

I explained the preceding service lapses to the manager, including my exchange with the disrespectful waitress. He listened attentively, but did not utter a word. He said exactly nothing. He made no attempt to address or respond to my complaints. I might as well have been speaking to a light post.

Thereafter, I returned to my table and finished my meal, intent to never return. In a silly high school display, several staff members huddled nearby my table, pointing at my wife and I, and openly speaking about us. Par for the course at this point. I declined to comment.

As my wife and I were exiting the restaurant, the particularly rude waitress was standing at the hostess station. As we walked out, the waitress shouted “enjoy your leftovers.” We did not take any leftovers with us and, therefore, her transparent attempt to disrespect us failed miserably. Then, an employee exited the restaurant, walked to the back of our car, and photographed our car and license plate. I was astounded. As I asked the employee why he was photographing my car and license plate, the rude waitress walked outside, stood at the door, and displayed her middle finger to my wife and I. This new level of hostility far transcended bad service.

During the ensuing exchange, the manager walked outside. I told the manager about his employee photographing my car and, much to my shock, the manager acknowledged that he authorized the employee to take the photograph. You read that correctly. The manager authorized one of his employees to photograph my car and license plate. As you can imagine, the conversation went rapidly downhill from there. The manager refused to accept responsibility for either his wrongful actions or the wrongful actions of his staff. The whole experience was utterly astonishing.

If spectacularly rude and offensive food servers are your thing, Uncle Bernie’s Deli is right up your alley. Otherwise,...

Was insulted as soon as I walked in to joing my party because they all had been waiting for me to get there after my medical procedure when I nice approach a staff member to see who are waiter was and mentioned simply if we can put in out order and the. Party I was with wanted leave if it was going to take too long. Now here I'm weak and no energy after my procedure the owners brother rudely aske me to leave and not to served and when I woke to the manager they don't like the kind of customers they get that's why he was try to justify the tempura of the owners brother which is not ok. So they basically want your money but can't stand there customers. Never put my foot in this stablishment and as dirty and the food had been old and stale at times good thing I never got sick as sick I'm with a weak immune system No sympathy for sick and old customers. The manager managed to de-escalate the situation after I was humiliated in front of other customers. They get customers they're busy but doesn't mean they like you or they don't even care if you come back or not . I say loves in Calabasas is way worth it and cleaner and my better quality food and they don't have the guy that clean with a broom come take your order God know where his...

Craving something hot on this cold, rainy day. Ended up trying Uncle Bernie's for the first time with the wife and we were very, very impressed. Just like many other Jewish Deli's in Los Angeles it has a lot of the traditional fixins. Corned beef, pastrami, lox, whitefish etc. I think what separates it from a lot of the others is the amount of choices, fantastic service, the awesome portions and pretty generous pricing.

Matzo ball soup was giving me life. Corned beef was stacked and super delicious with the deli mustard. Tried the patty melt, which true to its name, was like butter. All the sides were great too, french fries were crispy/crunchy, macaroni salad and coleslaw wasn't dripping in mayo and dont forget to get some pickles.

One thing I have to say is how the service was spot on. There was one waiter running around serving at least 7 different tables and he was nonstop but still cared about each one individually. Knew the menu back to front even with all the choices and was quick and efficient from the drinks to packing up our foods.

Everything was so good, we even took a loaf of rye bread home. Service and food was fantastic, well be taking our friends and family here next...

TLDR; just go here. I went to Uncle Bernie's for a birthday meal after a long hike. It was was a delight from start to finish. The ambiance is friendly and unpretentious and the large dining room is full of happy chatter as people of all ages and ethnicities gather for meals. The waitstaff were friendly, even as they kept service moving quickly. They even took time to put a birthday candle in my Matzoball soup which was kind and delightful. The matzo ball soup was full of hearty, tasty ingredients. The matzo ball itself was a cloud of carb-y, salty goodness. The hot pastrami sandwich with coleslaw and corned beef was a master-piece. The rye was tasty and soft, even though it held the heavy ingredients. The Russian dressing was flavorful and the coleslaw was bright and fresh. The pastrami itself was soft, oozing with smoky meaty flavor, and gave the perfect resistance to bite into. Even though it's a schlep from my house, I'll have to come back.
