Ask anyone in Los Gatos where you can find the best coffee in town and they’ll invariably point you to the Coffee Roasting Company.
This iconic shop has been sourcing and roasting premium beans from major coffee producing regions around the world since 1982. You can always choose among three fresh drip options in the morning: light roast, dark roast, and decaf. There’s a separate espresso bar offering all the traditional handcrafted coffee drinks as well as a few unique concoctions. You can also buy whole beans ground to order, as well as pour-overs of your favorite blend or single origin coffee, at the counter in back. If you love great coffee, this is the place for you!
In addition to coffee, tea, and decadently fresh pastries, the cafe menu has been expanded over the years to include a variety of light breakfast and lunch items as well as beer and local mountain wine.
But this is more than just a coffeehouse. It’s the unofficial Town Hall where local residents gather to meet, greet, or just hang out at a table in front and watch the world go by. The gently worn furniture and exposed brick walls create a relaxing old school European vibe. The shop is open every day until 6pm and there’s live music several nights a week.
The Coffee Roasting Company just celebrated their 40th anniversary. And although founder and owner Terri Hope recently sold part of the business to a silent partner, she still proudly presides over the operation as if it were entirely her own. She’s also a major influencer in the community as Chair of Los Gatos Music & Arts, a nonprofit that raises funds for music and arts programs by hosting live summertime concerts (including Jazz on the Plazz).
With fewer and fewer independent shops like this, I’m glad that the Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company continues to thrive, and I highly...
Read moreMy visit here was disappointing. I ordered the iced oatmilk latte and a quiche. The oatmilk latte was tasty but the quiche took forever. It was chaos at the barista counter. After waiting 15 minutes for the quiche I went to ask the cashier when it would be ready. She spoke with her manager who went and got it out of the fridge and heated it up (it appears they had forgotten my order). It took just a few minutes to heat up and I assumed they had a strong convection oven since the quiche was in a tin foil cup. When I got the quiche the inside was completely cold. After having waited 30 minutes to get my food I took a few bites of the warmer edges and left. I'm surprised that such a well-established cafe could be so disorganized.
I had really wanted to like this place because I believe in supporting local coffee roasters, but this was very...
Read morePoor service and sad matcha latte. There are 2 sides to this place that serve different things. You can order/pay at either side and then no one explains that you have to take your receipt to the other side and wait in line to show them what you want and have already paid for. The Matcha was first taken by someone else and then it was mostly foam and pastel green with no flavor. When I inquired about why, they offered to remake it and I noticed it was mostly a low quality mix with a sprinkle of real matcha. It did not taste as a matcha latte should. My father is a home raster of coffee and was not impressed with the double ristretto he ordered. It did not come with sparkling water. My friend was unimpressed with her bear claw. The ham quiche was tasty...
