Founding and Establishment: Zona Rosa was established in 2012 by owner Alvaro Alvarez. He expanded the business to Los Gatos in 2023. His goal was to offer a modern take on Mexican cuisine, emphasizing fresh, handmade dishes and innovative flavors while staying rooted in traditional tastes. Operating as a scratch kitchen, Zona Rosa prides itself on crafting every dish by hand, from salsas to tortillas. The menu includes vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options alongside classic dishes. Signature items include highly regarded tacos, such as blackened salmon tacos and tostadas atun ahi (ahi tuna), and handcrafted cocktails like hibiscus margaritas.

This place is fantastic. The food was spectacular and inventive. Things like pumpkin seed habanero salsa, and very interesting salmon tacos. Also, bacon and pistachio guacamole is an amazing gift to world cuisine. The carne asada y hongos is the perfect dish after a 10 mi walk. I can speak with some authority on that. The service was very attentive, and the perfect margarita matches its name and was expertly balanced between citrus and tequila.

Terrible experience. We ordered the taqiitos , bass taco Both were very dry and there was no spice nor any flavor to them. Extremely bland. We got the pollo enchilada. Same again , very bland and there’s no texture too. We asked for some salsa to make up for the spice and dry food, they charged for salsa as well! Finally we thought they could not go wrong in the dessert. And we found a piece of paper in the pumpkin fritters. Please avoid!

Moving to a new city can be an exciting adventure, but it also comes with the challenge of finding new restaurants to explore. As a recent transplant from Chicago, I was eager to try out the local dining scene in San Jose. One restaurant that caught my attention was Zone Rosa, known for its enticing menu and vibrant ambiance. Unfortunately, my experience at Zone Rosa left much to be desired, particularly in terms of the service provided by the front desk staff.

Unwelcoming Front Desk Service: Upon entering Zone Rosa, my mother and I were greeted by a front desk staff member who seemed disinterested and unenthusiastic. We politely inquired about the waiting time, hoping to gauge how long we would have to wait for a table. However, the staff member's lackadaisical attitude and procrastination made us feel unwelcome right from the start.

Procrastination and Lack of Communication: Despite asking for the wait time three times, the desk front staff member seemed to deliberately ignore our inquiries. This led to a frustrating and uncomfortable situation where we were left wondering if our presence was even acknowledged. It is disheartening to experience such behavior, especially when trying to enjoy a meal in a new city.

Unreasonable Waiting Time: After persistently asking for the wait time, the staff member finally responded with an hour and a half. This waiting excessive time left us astounded, considering the restaurant was not overly crowded at the time. It felt as though we were intentionally being disregarded and dismissed, which left a sour taste...

My husband and I visited Zona Rosa today around 3 pm. We were greeted by a waiter (wearing a hat- I’m mentioning this just to clarify) who informed us that the kitchen would be closed for 30 minutes. He suggested we wait at the bar and promised us that the first round of drinks would be complimentary. Despite the waiter's assurance that the drinks were on the house (he mentioned it twice), when we received our bill the charges for the drinks were included. When we brought this up with the staff, particularly the lady who took our order, she denied the existence of any such offer (also the kitchen was never closed). Seeking clarification, we approached the waiter who initially offered, only to be met with hostility and attitude. He claimed that the complimentary drinks were only applicable if we had chosen to sit at a table, not at the bar. This discrepancy in information was not only misleading but also deceitful. Feeling cheated and disrespected by the waiter’s dishonesty and rudeness, we paid our bill without leaving a tip—a rare occurrence for us. Unfortunately, the incompetence and arrogance of one individual tarnished what could have been an enjoyable dining experience. Zona Rosa, take note: unless improvements are made in both service and integrity, your reputation will...

An unexpected gem. Simply the best Mexican food we have had in our entire life and I’ve been eating Mexican food for over 50 years. The texture…the flavors all of it perfect. The shrimp enchiladas perfection personified. The Shrimp or grilled iperfectly the sauce was Exquisite. Even my 88-year-old mother-in-law who does not like Mexican Food loved it. Then we had the Carnitas Nachos. The Carnitas were perfect. Lean well cooked the black beans and the chips which had mole sauce were amazing. Did I forget to mention the appetizer best chips ever homemade tortillas Fried to perfection. Guacamole was just a hint of lime and some other sauce I couldn’t put my finger on. Yummy. Did I mention the perfect margaritas. They were just that “perfect”. All natural ingredients great tequila and all fresh mixer… topped with a blood orange slice. If you haven’t tried this place you’re really missing something. I live 2 1/2 hours away and will drive here just for the food. Can’t be missed!!!...
