I could not wait for one of my favorite restaurants to open in Los Gatos. During the construction of Oren's Hummus I would stop by at least once a week to see how soon it would be until they opened. When they did, we were one of the first customers. What a surprise we had coming. This restaurant has had problems since it opened. We kept going back thinking it would work out the kinks but that never happened. You have to wait a minimum of 30 plus minutes for your food. That is a long time for a take out restaurant. Several times when we brought the food home, the entire order was not in the bag. Last week took the cake and we decided if we want Oren's we will drive to Palo Alto or one of their other locations. We were having people over for dinner. We decided to order from Oren's. $150. When we unpacked the food, the pitas were burnt and soggy inside. The gluten free ones were so flat you could not open them to put anything inside. I packed up all of the pitas and the next day I took them back. The manager told me they were supposed to be like that. One side burned a dark brown and they were supposed to be wet and soggy inside. That is the way they are served at all of their restaurants. No they are not. This establishment needs to get its act together if they are to survive. Most of the time the place is empty. Try one of the other locations. They...
Read moreReally delicious food in a very nice setting. As a vegan, it was really great to be able to try a vegan version of one of the main dishes. The complementary pickles and sauces are a very nice touch, and raise the authenticity a notch. The main dishes are relatively expensive, BUT they are generous, and if you can see in the photo, very finely seasoned! A main plate with a choice of two sides! I definitely ended up with leftovers. I just wish they had a vegan version of their borekas, and maybe a vegan version of topped style hummus. In addition to the pickles and extra tahini on request, one other point I was very impressed with is the bread - freshly made and very fluffy, not the boring bagged/frozen kind you normally find in American Mediterranean restaurants. Falafel was Goldilocks: crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, not too dry, not too oily.
The staff was very kind and attentive, but be aware it's in a busy area and the restaurant gets crowded, it may not be your best option if you're in a rush. Having said that, I enjoyed chilling out on the patio, slowly enjoying my food on a sunny day without...
Read moreWow, I’ve been here a few times and the food is always at least a high B. Normally, the service is a C. However, over the last several visits I’ve noticed a sharp decline over each visit. Tonight, I was the only person in the restaurant to order a takeout entree. I stood at the cash register for 5 minutes without being spoken to, only side glances from staff. Finally ordered, and was subsequently ignored for 20 minutes while waiting for the food. No offer of a water, no small talk. When I tried to ask to buy a coke I was ignored again as I stood at the register. They finally came to ring me out, but the waiter had so much attitude that I couldn’t bring myself to give them any more money. Eventually, the food is ready the waiter put on the counter, said my name and walked away before I could even come up to grab the food. Did not say thank you or any common things a customer service person would say. Very disappointed in such...
