Every time I visit this place they get my order wrong, and I have ordered for my office from here a bunch and each time we ordered they would get at least 2 orders wrong out of 10, 20% failure rate. It isn't the counter person as they entered the order correctly according to all my many, many receipts. The restaurant is not clean, food has expired some times... while I was waiting for my food (the first time) - when they got my order wrong, the person next to me had to return her expired orange juice she was served because it had become fermented / carbonated. Gross. They didn't even go pull the bad orange juice container so this will happen to the next person that orders it as well. Yikes. The counter person seemed genuinely disinterested when the person raised this issue to their attention, and barely responded to her. The customer then just took a drink from the cold case and walked out with it and no one accounted for inventory.
I ordered an $11 bacon cheddar burger... only to walk back to my office and discover there was no bacon on it. Considering that they charge about $2-5 for bacon I came back and returned the burger and let them know they didn't make it correctly. There is a food handling rule "Never reuse any food that comes back from the dining area" My burger was never remade it just had bacon thrown on it after 2 people touched it with bare hands at the counter. Ungloved hands touching food is also a health violation. This didn't make me want to eat this burger after I went through this and everyone touched it. Would you eat that after all that? Fries are freezer burnt. The counter areas all need a good cleaning, as well as the cold case needs cleaning, I never order anything from the cold case as it doesn't seem cold and the doors are always left open and the items in there do not look up to par, the painting of the counter, walls, and ceiling are due to be repainted. When things were made correctly they used to be decent. I don't think I will come back to this restaurant until the food safety and health violations are addressed and maybe a staffing change for the people who cannot make food to order. There are just too many other safe and consistent choices in town. I hope they...
Read moreWhen we began our drive down Santa Cruz Avenue, Sweet Pea was one of the first places to catch our eye. We did not opt to come here right away and instead enjoyed a stroll around downtown. Ultimately, nothing really caught our eye and well, the wait at Los Gatos Cafe was nothing short of insane so we crossed back over to Sweet Pea.
It's far from a fancy joint, but it serves up some pretty tasty food. I opted to go for the Santa Fe crepe which came with thinly sliced chicken, hatch chiles, jack cheese, pico, and sour cream. I thought the crepe was delicious! It definitely would have been even better if they used grilled chicken pieces instead of sliced chicken breast like from a deli counter but that's a small detail.
Dad got the chicken and artichoke but unfortunately found it a little dry. He also was a little disappointed that he didn't get the pesto cream sauce and instead also got sour cream which didn't really jive with the mix. My brother got the apple cinnamon and it was absolutely loaded. If you like apple pie filling, this will be right up your alley!
Mom got a portobello sandwich on ciabiatta bread. It was a generous portobello mushroom with spinach, tomatoes, and avocado to zhush up the sandwich. It was pretty good but could have been elevated more with a little bite, maybe some balsamic vinegar.
For the table we shared a basket of garlic fries. Definite kudos for the freshly fried fries. Thick cut, crispy outside, fluffy inside. Perfection. It was also tossed in a generous amount of garlic but could have used some parsley too...for color.
All in all, it was a good meal. It won't blow you away with plating (you're eating off chinet plates with plastic utensils) but it was certainly pretty good and not too harsh...
Read moreWe went for breakfast and got a sweet crepe and savory crepe. The sweet crepe we got was the Nutella, banana, & strawberry which was well made and yummy. The savory crepe was called ‘the sunrise’ and was disgusting. It has no seasoning, onion and/garlic would’ve been delicious, as would paprika. The description said it has artichokes, spinach, mushrooms, and a poached egg. The artichokes weren’t separated and were just large chunks, the mushrooms were thinly sliced but raw, and likewise the spinach was uncooked. It felt like the inside ingredients would be better steamed or sautéed and then put in the crepe. While eating it we kept asking each other “did they forget the egg?” and then we found it. A tiny little egg stuffed in the back of the crepe where we only got about 3 bites. But the absolute worst thing was the sauce they put on top. It had to be about a half cup and it had absolutely no flavour whatsoever. The crepe lacked the flavor and warmth you’d expect a cooked breakfast dish to have. It was all in all unappetizing. I don’t believe the food is worth the prices either. I will not be visiting this...
