I have dined at several Ruth Chris steakhouses in the past and have had nothing but positive experiences from the waitstaff to the food. However, I never been to the Metairie location and never for a tastemaker dinner event. So last night was a first in location and event and I was excited for a great evening of service, food, and wine with my family. Parking was limited at this location but they did valet park. We got there about 20 minutes early to make sure we had plenty of time to valet and check in. There was only one guy working valet so the line was long because of this and it took us almost 20 minutes to be able to turn the car over to the valet. There was no open parking to self park, not even on the street. Valet was super nice and definitely hustling. We checked in with about 2 minutes to spare and were informed that the room was not ready and to just wait in the crowd. And it was a crowd. Everyone participating in the event was crammed into the small lobby space waiting. Eventually we were brought up to the room and sat. The room was extremely noisy and barely had any sound damping features. It was difficult to hear the person next to you talking let alone the presenters and the hard to see tv screen that played an overview of the dinner. Every course arrived to the table cold. The charbroiled oyster- cold. The crispy stuffed chicken- cold. The pork tenderloin and mashed potatoes- barely lukewarm. The sides to the steak- cold. The only item to arrive to the table hot was the steak. Luckily the steak plate was so hot it rewarmed the cold sides. Speaking of the steak sides, they were delivered to the table as a shared side but no silverware was offered to serve the sides. This meant that everyone had to use their fork they had been eating with to serve themselves potatoes and corn. We tried to wait to ask for a spoon but the staff was too busy passing out food and wouldn’t stop at the table unless they were delivering something. The staff was for the most part attentive and nice when at the table however it was nowhere near the level of personal service I have come to associate with Ruth Chris. My last issue with the night was the the last course was a dessert to be served with coffee or tea. Dessert arrived after a delay and after the check was dropped off and paid. We were never offered tea or coffee with our dessert and the waitstaff was too busy breaking down and resetting the room around all the remaining tables and guests to check on us again. Overall, I did have a great night mainly due to the company of my dining companions and I was also able to try wines and pairings I normally would not have. I would try another tastemaker night despite the quality of food and service not being what I would expect from a Ruth Chris and approximately 200 dollar price tag. However, I would not try my next one at this ruth...
Read moreI had a birthday dinner here for myself on July 11th, 2023 with my daughter, my mom and my boyfriend. My mom arrived before us so she asked to order chicken tenders and fries for my hungry 1 year old. When our waiter, Raymond, came to take our drink orders he said my daughters food would be out shortly, which it was. Then after he brought our drinks back, he took our food orders. When our food arrived my mom dropped her knife on the floor and he said he would bring another one back. We didnt see him again for the rest of our meal until we were ready to leave. So me and my mother had to share a steak knife for our meals. Once he returned we asked for to-go boxes and the check and he didn't respond to us, he just turned around and left like we aggravated him. So then when he returns my mom asked him about a complimentary birthday dessert that the hostess mentioned to her when she said it was my birthday. He acted as if it was not something they normally do but he can do it for us. So we thanked him and asked what kind of desserts did they have and once he told us I decided on the blueberry cheesecake. In the middle of this happening he is boxing our food for us and he came over to me and used what looked like a box-knife blade to scrape crumbs from my part of the table and he scraped half of them onto my lap! I was very upset at this moment because I had on a nice dress and after a long year of being a first time mom I finally felt pretty and confident just to get trash knocked into my lap without even a slither of an apology! But I didn't say anything due to the shock of that actually happening at such a fine restaurant I just brushed them off and told my mom what happened. We waited for about 20 minutes until asking another waiter who walked by on the status of my dessert and finally my boyfriend got up when he seen him and asked for the blueberry cheesecake to go. He said he thought we wanted the bread pudding and then about 10 minutes later he brought out the cheesecake and also gave us the bread pudding to take. For a $300 bill, this was not the service I expected and I'm highly upset with the experience along with the rest...
Read moreI've never been to Ruth's Chris Steak House. This was an expensive experience that I waited years to enjoy. My husband surprised me with a reservation for our anniversary, and I was SO EXCITED. Well, my excitement was short lived. We got drinks - Sippin' on Sunshine, this was the highlight of the trip, as they were delicious. Next, we ordered two appetizers. First, Veal Osso Buco Ravioli, which were floating in some red dishwater, pretty flavorless...It's possible they forgot to put the seasoning in it. 2nd was Goat Cheese and Artichoke Dip, which came with toast points, this wasn't bad... but basically only had the essence of artichoke in it, there was barely any in there.. There was a little bit of goat cheese but the overwhelming flavor was Parmesan. At this point, I decided just to get the crab cake appetizer, it wasn't bad, but was supposed to come with some lemon butter... I never tasted that. I realized after I took a few bites that it wasn't there. My husband was extremely disappointed with his steak as well, which came out blue, but I'll let him write his own review on this one. I did get another drink, a Raspberry Cosmo, that I'm sorry to say that I had to send back, I don't know what was in it but it tasted terrible, like the worst medicine. I should have just stuck with the Sippin' on Sunshine.
The level of service was about the same that I receive, and expect, at Outback restaurant (which is 1/4 of the cost). He bought us a glass of water and then gave us a carafe of water, which had condensation on it, naturally making it hard to handle ... that being said leaving the carafe basically tells us to refill it ourselves, that they can't be bothered... Just not what I expect from a "fine dining" experience.
I don't know if this is a location problem, maybe other Ruth's Chris Steak House are amazing, but I'll never know because I'm never going back. This was a really expensive gift and I should have left smiling, but all I wish now is that he would have just...
