Find it telling that management never bothered to respond regarding the overall bad experience. They obviously feel ok as long as they were still paid.
Pretty on the surface, but the food nowhere near matched the decor.
Ordered trio of salsa as starter. Unsure if tomatillo was fresh made, seemed to have a guar gum thickener. The spicy red was obviously made with canned tomatoes, and the roasted veggie "salsa" was grilled veggies in a half cup of canola. I normally would take salsa leftovers, but only the chips are coming home.
Pescado al Horno seemed impressively massive when they brought it (after my kids were done eating already.) The salad was well-dressed, hiding a stack of mystery. Fresh cherry tomatoes were appreciated- the only thing not oversalted on the plate. Guac was layered onto what I think was pickled onion (some type of brown paste) and spread over a large mahi filet that had not an ounce of moisture.. took a solid minute to chew my first bite. Be aware that the plaintains on this dish are the SWEET ones (not indicated on menu) and they hide under the fish buried in the rice. Oh the rice. I'm not sure who tasted this in the kitchen and didn't pass out from sodium toxicosis.. I think what irked me most was after not eating my food, the waiter didn't question why. Very pleasant wait staff- think the music was just a smidge too loud for clear communication.
Kids were happy, except when I requested more plantains for the salsa, we were brought a plate of sweet plaintains. Evidently there are 3 different kinds on the menu so just asking for plaintains is a game of roulette. Only as we were boxing did we clarify that we needed the chips and added some togo. Still charged for the sweet ones so we took them togo, too.
My spouse said his food was ok except for the rice, some oil flavor he couldn't identify.. ate about half. We went ahead and took the proteins to-go for my dogs- knew they'd just get tossed otherwise. Very expensive treat for my dogs tonite.
Visited the restroom as we were leaving. One single for very a long line of women. Better to make them gender-neutral so that the empty other restroom could've been used.
Last note that our server did inquire for us about military discount, and management took 10% off only my spouses main dish. Just an fyi for other military...
Read moreThe place is neat. It is very well decorated. We were welcomed by a nice waitress. The waiting area is pretty small. The restaurant is 3 different rooms with seating area in front of the restaurant and apparently a dining area on the roof. Unfortunately we did not get to experience the outdoor seating due to the crazy Ohio Valley weather.
First the good. The appetizers were good. My group got the queso, guacamole trio and salsa trio. The salsa is different and 1 didn’t have much flavor. The queso is the best for the money.
The food was amazing. The presentation was spot on. The flavor out out this world. So many flavors and everything was cooked to perfection. I personally had the spicy chicken enchiladas, they were great! I tried the salmon and I want to get it next.
The service was pretty good. The young guy was not too energetic. Drinks and appetizers took a bit to come out. But the place was crazy busy. I heard the wait was 2 hours.
The bar area was very crowded with people eating and getting drinks. We were able to get our drinks quickly.
There was a small issue with the bathroom lock. I brought it to the attention of the manager, he was very attentive and appreciative. The rest room is close to the chicken so you can see the kitchen folks at work. It appears they care about what they do.
The not so good The place is really loud. The music is good but really loud in the main dining room. We had to be in this room since we had a party of 6. Since the music was loud people had to talk loud. It was very hard to have a conversation at the table. The dining area where the entrance was did not seen as loud.
Drinks were expensive and seemed a bit watered down. The margarita pitchers were about $50 each; they were served nicely and we got about 5 small glasses out of 1 pitcher.
Since this place is new and popular we had to make our reservations 6 weeks out for due to having a party of 6.
Overall: A very cool place that I will go to again. Food is full of favor and is great. It can get loud. I’d love to try sitting in another room or outside. Make reservations Try their specialty drinks I would have given a...
Read moreHaving been to restaurants of all price points in major cities, this place was just okay. Fine for a first time visit but not special enough to become a regular. -Like the decor, felt like a cute date spot. Way too loud for a weekday night in the inside dining areas, entrance dining area seemed less loud though so might have something to do with acoustics. Found myself yelling to speak, this got annoying quickly. -Severs were nice but felt like things took a long time whether it’s drinks and apps coming or getting the check for us. I get food can take time to come to the table if they have a fresh food concept, but drinks should not take like 20-25 mins to arrive, hire another bartender!! I ended up ordering 2 drinks in one go based on reading other reviews and found myself feeling so glad that I did. -Food was meh, my vegetarian enchiladas was confusing as majority was the dish was good, but the veggies were so overly salted, it felt like I was eating a mouthful of salt straight up. The portion was fine, but the giant dish ware makes the portion look smaller than it is, rather than making it look classy which is probably what they were going for with the price points. -Drinks were okay, margaritas were good enough for a Mexican place. I recommend that they add spicy to the drink itself for the margarita with the popsicle, it took so long to melt even with me swirling it in there that I was basically done with the drink before the popsicle melted. Horchata drink felt like the ratios were off, I’ve had this drink plenty of times at other places and this was not the best version of it. -Chocolate tres leches was performative with the smoke and all but the smokiness didn’t go with the taste of the dessert which was too sweet. Portion is wayyyy too big, easily could be shared with 4-5 people. I recommend using less “frosting” and darker chocolate, smaller portion and lower the price as well. Or even offering a vanilla version, I felt like the s’mores theme didn’t really fit with the tres leches. Hoping the owners read the reviews and fix the common issues mentioned if they want business to stay busy after the...
