If you are looking for for fine China, Sterling Silver and fancy dressed servers then look else where. If you are looking for a great juicy burger and a comfortable place to enjoy that burger then this is your place.
You know you have found a winner when you arrive on a sunny and chilly Saturday at 1155 am for a noon opening and there are three vehicles of customers already parked and waiting to get inside ahead of you.
As you pull in the parking lot you read the posted sign that simply claims, "Voted Best Dive Bar in Kentucky." What you have here is hidden jem on Bardstown Road that has a maybe a 20 foot bar, five high tops and two tables and due to social distancing half those place settings are closed off. You walk through the small vestibule and enter Bambi's and you see why the Best Dive Bar in Kentucky sign is posted.
The draft beer is cold and served in disposable cups. The condiments, salt and pepper are single serve and brought to your table in a flat fried food tray. Your plate is a heavy duty cardboard oval that holds a delicious burger.
The burger is plump, juicy and you taste the love. The meat is not overworked, and you taste no filers. It is cooked almost perfectly and is quite filling. The burger is dressed with mayo, tomato, sliced onion and dill pickles. The tomato tastes like it was just sliced for that burger. The lettuce was crisp, fresh and no wilting. Only issue was the burger needed more salt and pepper.
I ordered my burger with the beer battered Onion rings. They were hot crispy and most importantly not dripping with grease. I had to add some salt but these delicious rings required no Ketchup for a great taste.
The menu is one page, the cups, plates, and silverware are disposable but the burgers are what you go...
Read moreGreat, historic, reasonably priced hole in the wall family run bar. Bambi is a staple of Louisville, specifically Bardstown road. Beth & Paul are the owners, they have to be the most down to earth, relatable bar/restaurant owners I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. The place is packed with welcoming regulars. The beer & liquor prices are the best on the street, the staff is humble and accepting, and the food is immaculate. The best burger I've had in the area, ample fry style options, and the alternative entree's are delicious. If you get the opportunity to stop in, you will most likely meet the owners themselves, and Megan will serve you up the coldest beer this side of Alaska. The outdoor patio area has large tables, and umbrellas for coverage. If you get the itch to bar hop, grab some friends, and head here for the starting point of the"Bambi Walk", and challenge yourself to go the distance. The beer is cold, the toddy's are hot, the bourbon is smooth, and the burgers remain on a pedestal. Out of towners, locals, and all others should make the time to stop by this one-of-a-kind establishment. You will not regret...
Read moreI had heard from various people and online Bambi has the best burgers in Louisville. Armed with this information I took my 11 year old nephew (he’s a burger connoisseur) for an afternoon of burger tasting. The place is very cool, old school vibe. It’s definitely more of a bar than a restaurant which is great! The service was good and the place was clean. I actually asked once we walked in if kids were allowed and YES KIDS ARE WELCOME - at least during the daytime. My issue was with our burgers. Not sure if we hit it at the wrong time but once we both picked up our burgers to eat them the meat basically crumbled into small pieces. This happened to both burgers and every bite. They are huge burgers and tasted great but it stinks having every single bite crumble onto the plate as you try to eat it. The patties we got were definitely not formed properly. Not sure if this is common at Bambi? If not I’d like to give it...
