I visited this place for the first time and I can't wait to go back again! I'd looked at the menu before arriving and I thought I'd probably want the Reese's or Peanut Butter pie. However, I'm glad I asked for the man at the counter to tell me a little about it. It has a lot of vanilla pudding in it, which isn't really my favorite. So I got the Chocolate Chip Chess Pie instead and I'm sure glad I did! Guys, this pie is absolutely out of this world!! When he first handed it to me, I must admit I was a little worried - I wanted a bigger piece (I have an enormous sweet tooth!) and because it was served on a dinky little plastic plate. The presentation wasn't very impressive. However! This pie was so intensely sweet and flavorful that I wouldn't have been able to eat a bigger piece! It was described to me as tasting similar to a soft cookie. I can understand the comparison, but I would say more specifically it tastes like and extremely under baked (although very warm) cookie - which was perfect!

I also had some ice cream while I was there and did quite a bit of sampling before making a decision. I have to say that their ice cream isn't quite as life changing as their pies, but it's pretty good stuff. (I prefer a slightly creamier texture.) But there were a couple impressive flavors that I really enjoyed. I decided to get a scoop of their seasonal Peanut Brittle and a scoop of their Pralines. I was silly and asked for hot fudge on top of that, but it really didn't need it because the flavors of both were so perfect on their own.

I absolutely cannot wait to go back to this place! I would definitely get the Chocolate Chip Chess Pie again, and maybe try a slice of the Chocolate...

I would give no stars if it were an option. I was in Louisville for a couple of days and stopped in this shop with my aunt. We bought a milkshake, two pieces of pie and a cookie to take back home with us. The total spent was close to $19. We gathered our goodies and as I was walking out, I took a sip of the milkshake. I immediately thought it tasted like soured milk. We got into the car. I took another sip and it still tasted soured. I asked my aunt to take a sip and she verified that it did indeed taste like soured milk. I went back into the shop to let the clerk know it tasted soured. She didn't apologize, she opened the refrigerator, checked the date on the milk and exclaimed "nope, its not sour!" She didn't say she was sorry or offer to make a new shake. I left the shake on the counter, thanked her and left. Mind you, the shake cost $5. All the way back to Cincinnati my aunt and I belched soured milk. When I got home, I gave a piece of pecan pie to my husband. He said "this tastes horrible" and threw it in the garbage. I called my aunt and asked about her coconut creme pie and she said it was aweful and she threw it away. She asked me not to give the cookie she bought to my grandson because it is probably no good as well. So to summarize, this was an expensive, unpleasant experience at this...

When we visit Louisville, it's a must to stop in and bring some goodies back home. I normally go to the St. Matthew's location, however this was closer to where we stayed. Not to mention my boyfriend was outside in the truck and woke up with the flu. I walked in and there was a line, that's fine no biggie. It gives me more time to counter shop and make my selections. It was finally my turn. I ordered my usually 6 yellow cupcakes for my coworkers, and a sugar cookie for my son. Grated the chalkboard behind the counter had nothing on it. No menu or listing posted anywhere for prices. Ok, fine. I asked the young lady behind the counter if they sold 1/2 pies. She looked at me and answered very rude, no you pay for each piece! My tone then became not pleasant. I explained, I dont live here, we always stop in on our way home, you have nothing posted on your menu board, I have no clue!! Not to mention I have a sick boyfriend in the car who was not thrilled to stop. I asked for 3 pieces of Dutch caramel apple pie. She then responded how much 3 pieces were and a whole pie was a few bucks more. So I purchased the entire pie and I asked for ice water. We will definitely go back to the pie kitchen, because the cupcakes and pies are the best!! Probably not...

As part of my five days in Kentucky, part of my goal was to try some famous local foods. Hi on all the lists was the derby pie. However, I saw many places recommend that you go for a knock off rather than getting a frozen original. One of the best places recommend it was this place for its pecan chocolate chip pie. I believe that was the name, it might have been slightly different. If you go in and ask for the derby pie knock off they will certainly know which one you’re talking about. This was by far one of the best desserts I’ve ever had. Imagine a warm chocolate chip cookie inserted inside of a super fresh pecan pie. A couple scoops of vanilla ice cream on the side and you have yourself one heavenly dessert. This thing was absolutely amazing and I cannot say better things about this dessert. A must try while you are in Kentucky!

The name is long and not that catchy. Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen. The floors are scuffed but the booth seats still shine, And the wrought iron chairs are surely the originals. Not many places these days have bells that tingle when you come in the door Its a place you want to walk into with both your grandpa and your daughter. The marvel of ice cream is certainly timeless And as old as the building was, the tables were clean and the pies were fresh. I just have to say, they don't have places like this in Scottsdale. You can take the girl out of Kentucky, but there will always be some Kentucky in this girl. I hope I never am too far removed from brick building and hand-written signs and fresh-baked pie and jukeboxes. And I really, really hope this place stays in business when I have grandkids of my own.

It’s always a pleasure tasting some fresh pie. So many places just order pies in from a factory but I’m almost certain these are made by hand in small batches. If that’s not the case then you could’ve fooled me. The crust was immaculate and the filling tasted bright and not overly sweet. We got the seasonal peach pie and couldn’t have been more impressed. I got a scoop of crème brûlée ice cream which was a mistake because it didn’t taste anything like crème brûlée and plain vanilla ice cream would’ve better accompanied the pie. My girlfriend got the mocha chip and she loved it. The only thing we didn’t like about this place was the incessant sounds of dancing from the studio overhead. I don’t know how the workers can tolerate hearing hours of that every day. More power to them. Overall would recommend.
