We are fairly new to the area and have been trying to locate the best places to eat on this side of the bridge. We happened upon Habana Blues while we were walking around downtown and decided to give it a try. We were promptly seated being they had just opened for the evening, but were told they had a party of fifty expected to arrive soon. With that in mind we ordered as quickly as we could being unfamiliar with their menu. We tried 2 warm tapas the Papas Rellenas which was good and the Chuleta de Cordero which for me was the best thing we ordered last night by far. For our entrees my husband had the Costillias al Vino and I had the Habana Blues Beef Wellington. My husband liked his dish though it didn't present as well as the description as for me the Wellington fell flat. Beef Wellington is a dish I always wanted to try in a restaurant setting, I have made it myself but the time it takes to prepare kind of takes the joy out of eating for me it when it's finished. Needless to say I was excited to order it, however what I didn't notice and I guess that's my fault, but they prepare it medium to well done, I wasn't asked for a temperature and when I received mine it was well done 😫. I asked the waiter about it when he came by and he told me it was impossible to cook it any other way or the pastry would be raw, mine however was borderline burnt. This was a complete letdown, the mushroom filling had cooked down to the point it was nonexistant. Nothing was done about my unhappiness regarding my meal and we both just ended up throwing our entrees in to go boxes, where my pup later enjoyed my steak. We did however order a piece of their Chocolate Tres Leches cake to share and it was really good. All in all our scervice was good considering the fifty top as well as many other tables, and I would visit this restaurant again but only after I have tried all the others...
Read moreI'm giving a five star rating because over all my experience was just that. There were a few things I wasn't real happy with. Not enough to take it down to 4 in my book. I do want to make an honest review though. My friend had made reservations. We were maybe at the most 10min late at the most. They assumed we weren't coming so we had to wait 10-15min. The Hostess was very friendly, nice, had a good attitude and was apologetic about the situation. Plus, technically we were in fact late. Once we got our margaritas and mojitos it was all good! They have an amazing mint mojito to die for! We had never been there before so with the combination of not knowing what to order, the menu in spanish and our waiter having a very strong accent, we were a bit lost to say the least. I just surrendered so to say and let the waitor pick the best beef dish and best sides. It worked out well and in my favor because it was the favorite meal out of the 3 ordered. It was delicious and had a wonderful appearance. There was nothing about my drinks and meal that I would have changed. The prices werent too bad. The drinks were definitely more expensive than we were expecting being about 10 each. My next complaint was the bill. We were a party of 3 and they added gratuity to each of our tickets. Im used to gratuity on a party of 5 or 6 but never 3. That was disappointing for sure. So overall it eas a good experience and I will definitely be back and would for sure...
Read moreI don't like leaving bad reviews, as my own job involves service recovery for feed back such as this. That being said there were a few things that just didn't sit right.
For one we were seated at a booth where there was a pillar blocking the only way to get into that one side of the booth. Legitimately you needed to move the table itself in order to get into the seat.
Aside from that service was good. Very polite and attentive.
Food: perhaps we are a little biased because we are coming from Miami but the food was, well it left a lot to be desired. I ordered the bistec chimichurri (chimichurri skirt steak) I asked for medium I was given well done. The rice was flavorless.
My wife ordered a beef empanada, the white bean soup. Both of which she said were flavorless. Our son's picadillo was the same
The best part of the meal was our youngest kids chicken tenders.
Again service was great minus the first snafu but from a product stand point the owner Chef Lopez who I'm 100% knows how to cook needs to evaluate the line cooks and adhering to the recipes. We spent $80 plus tip and in hind site it wasn't worth it.
Please take my opinion with the greatest of intentions as there is a gold mine of potential for good food because this area (New Albany) doesn't seem to have...
