Our family dined at the Louisville, KY Ruth’s Chris Steak House on Christmas Eve as part of our holiday celebration. We had made reservations in October and were looking forward to a special evening. Unfortunately, the experience fell well below our expectations for a restaurant of this caliber.
Upon being seated, which was slightly after our reservation time (understandable given the holiday), we found that several of our plates, glasses, and silverware were dirty, which is unacceptable under any circumstances, let alone for a fine-dining establishment. This issue was particularly concerning as my mother, who was dining with us, has stage four cancer and is immunosuppressed. The server removed most of the dirty items and replaced some of them, but there was no apology or acknowledgment of the seriousness of the situation.
Throughout the evening, the service remained subpar. Our server was not personable, spoke only to me, and did not address other adults or children at the table. It took an unusually long time to place our orders, and while we waited, we received cold appetizers. While we were hungry and ate them along with bread, this was disappointing.
When our main courses arrived, the issues persisted. Several of our side dishes were cold, my steak was undercooked (ordered medium-well but served mid-rare), and my husband’s dish was cold on top and warm on the bottom. Although the server did take these items back to the kitchen to be corrected, the quality of the re-served dishes was unacceptable. My steak, in particular, appeared to have been put under a broiler, as the butter was dark brown, and the steak itself was dry and leathery. At that point, I ate what I could, as we had already spent a significant amount of time at the restaurant with three children under 11.
At dessert time, only I was offered dessert, and no one else in our party was asked. This, along with the overall poor service, left us feeling unvalued and dismissed as guests. It was evident that other parties seated after us finished their meals and left long before we did, adding to the frustration of an already disappointing experience.
While we understand that holiday evenings can be busy, the issues we encountered—unsanitary table settings, cold food, inconsistent service, and poorly handled corrections—are not reflective of the fine-dining standards Ruth’s Chris Steak House is known for. Unfortunately, this experience fell so short of expectations that I cannot recommend dining at this location, particularly for a special occasion.
I hope this feedback helps improve future dining experiences, as this visit did not meet the quality or hospitality we...
Read moreI would not recommend Ruth's Chris. Based on previous negative reviews, management "welcomes the chance to make a negative experience right". After speaking with the manager today regarding a negative comment, that really isn't the case. He had the opportunity to accommodate the reservation request and he fell short on making it right. The reservation request was not an outlandish one by any means. My husband and I simply requested a bar table during happy hour. This was to ensure I would be able to satisfy my craving of the "bar hamburger ". When the reservation specialist called to confirm our reservation, she noted that the two bar tables they currently have were at capacity and we would be sat in the dining room. I advised her that the main reason for our visit (as noted in the reservation request) was for my hamburger (my husband always orders steak and the lobster mac n cheese). She advised that I would not be able to order the hamburger in the dining room area. The manager echoed those sentiments, falling back on the current capacity restrictions. I suggested that due to those capacity restrictions, he could allow me to order the bar hamburger (plus the additionally-charged dinner side items I always order) and my husband would still order off the dinner menu. He refused to accommodate that suggestion, which is his right, but that gesture garnered my negative review.
Most recently, we visited in July and had a great experience with the waiter, whom went out of his way to be accommodating. We visited again in September and was extremely disappointed with our non personable, sarcastic waiter. We understand wait staff are human and they have good/bad days, which is why we decided to book another reservation for today. It ended up being a missed opportunity for repeat customers due to the way management decided to handle the aforementioned request. With the prices you pay here, there are many other restaurants in the Louisville area that are far more accommodating to their patrons.
My family and I have celebrated many different occasions at Ruth's over the years; however, we will no longer choose to spend our hard earned money here...
Read moreThis place I will just go ahead and say is overrated. We went for our first time on my birthday and won’t give it another chance. Which is real unfortunate to say after all the years I had heard good things. I brought my kids, 5 and 3, whom were well behaved. The hostess made a jab about me “being brave for bringing my kids” which I took as a passive aggressive way of saying don’t bring your kids here. My kids were great btw. The happy hour is decent but lacks many food options and the drinks suffer from the same. I got the blackberry mojito 6/10 and my wife got the pomegranate martini 10/10. Unfortunately and annoyingly the happy hour items must be purchased in the bar away from your table. It will not be delivered to your table. You go get it after waiting in line. You will get a small baguette of bread with butter to start. The appetizers are large portion and that was a relief. We decided on the calamari which were very good. Crispy, with a the normal chew of calamari, and glazed with what tastes like BW3s Asian Zing. 9/10 if you like a moderate sweet and spice combo My wife and I decided on the tomahawk steak. Medium Rare heat with the truffle finish. It took quite a while to receive but we didn’t mind, it was a date. It eventually did come out and was cut off the bone by the manager. It looked great. She offered us the bone with a bunch of meat left on the bone to take home to give to our dogs. We of course said yes (I’ll get back to this momentarily).
The plates the steaks are served on are 500 deg and are used to help continue cook the meat. We cut into our tomahawk ribeye, which was actually rare but we didn’t want to make a fuss and continued to eat it. The truffle finish paired very well with the steak, but I do wish I got the steak cooked on medium instead. The steak was very lightly seasoned where it was not covered in truffle oil. Honestly I think the prime ribeye at Texas Roadhouse taste better which sounds crazy but rings true. Steak was a 7/10. Better the next day actually. The check came and we asked about the bone. Guess what? They tossed it. At this point we knew we will never come back. We paid we left and will...
