Imteresting restaurant. The bathrooms, for instance, have round basins where people can wash their hands, not the usual bathroom wash basins. The whole atmosphere implies the Near Eastern background. The food is OK, not great, BUT the prices for some items are more than EXCESSIVE!!! We ordered a whole range of dishes in order to get a full perspective on the food: vegetarian musaka with rice and lentils, samosa with lentil soup, humus with pita, and drinks. The musaka was a tasteless brown mash, while the rice and lentils had too much oil in it. The samosa was OK. The great surprise was the drinks. The diet coke glass was $ 4.00 dollars, but the lemonade glass was a WHOLE $ 7.50. We were shocked: what did that lemonade have more that some lemon juice and some sugar? Have the lemons gotten so much too much expensive? We are disappointed because what seems to happen in this restaurant is a clear and obvious customer RIP OFF!!! A SEVEN DOLLARS FIFTY CHARGE FOR A GLASS OF LEMONADE THAT COSTS AT A GAS STATION $ 1.50 IS LUDICROUS!!! We will not return to the restaurant.

The pomegranate mint lemonade was very interesting to say the least, I'm not sure I've ever had anything that tasted like it before and I did enjoy it, although I am a fan of mint as it has a very minty flavor. The chicken kabob rice and lentils were done really well, chicken was excellent, rice and lentils were good and filling, and I liked the garnish of grilled yellow squash, and zucchini, with cherry tomatoes, it completed the meal with a well rounded flavor. Also the hummus was really good for an appetizer if you are really hungry, Greek salad was really good, I especially liked all of the small cut vegetables and huge amounts of feta cheese! I would have to say this being a middle eastern restaurant, having different assortments of foods, is something different and a hidden gem in Louisville! Also the gravel outdoor seating under a shaded arbor would be fun if it wasn't cold and you wanted some fresh air out of the sun.

My favorite food is their babronia, which is a combination of beans and veggies in a red sauce with spices. It tastes so good, and you cannot get it anywhere else. I also like their baba ghanoush and their grape leaves. Mmm!!! Their Greek salad is also my favorite, but I forgot to take a picture of it on my recent visit, because I ate it so quickly. Lol. The waiter we had forgot to bring our silverware and plates for appetizers, on our previous visit. He apologized, and gave some silverware after our food had arrived...he said they were quite busy, but we were one table out of about 5 other tables inside. :/ One thing my family did NOT like was the sauce that came with the samosa appetizers. It tasted like Kraft honey mustard from the store.

The Grape Leaf is one of our all time favorites. Their food is always authentic and perfect with flavors that never disappoint your palette.

The Grape Leaf also has oil-free vegan options on their menu which are Esselstyn Compliant (both Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease). Please emphasize your oil-free needs and know that their breads are not Esselstyn Compliant and occasionally they might put nuts on your salad or bring out a little side of sauce that has dairy. With all this in mind please take comfort in knowing that The Grape Leaf can and will come through with an Esselstyn Compliant meal that will blow your mind. In fact our entire Esselstyn support group had an absolutely amazing dinner at the Grape Leaf where they fed 70 plus people with completely compliant and amazing food.

FYI: Esselstyn "Prevent Heart Disease" Compliant meals fall into these guidelines: Only Fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes. Nothing processed, enriched or bleached. No meat or dairy. Esselstyn "Reverse Heart Disease" compliance includes absolutely no added or existing oils including lecithin, nuts, coconut or avocado.

The Grape Leaf is "TOP NOTCH" so don't miss out.

COVID-19 UPDATE: The Grape Leaf is providing curb side service and I'm pleased to announce that the quality and quantity of their meals has not been compromised by the COVID-19 impact. They are totally living up to the reputation they built upon in our community. Way to...

Just had the WORST experience here. We got the wrong starters, which sucked because we were starving, then about 55 minutes after we had ordered our dinner I went I check on it. The server was rude and said it would be 5-10 minutes more. 15 minutes later we got it, missing items because "we were just in a hurry to get it to you." Uh.... Did you think we wouldn't notice the sides we were missing? Then we tasted the food. SO GROSS. We had both ordered medium rare and both of our dishes were so overcooked they tasted leathery. That's hard to do with salmon. We told the server we wanted to talk to a manager - at this point we'd been there over an hour. He came back about five minutes later and said the manager was TOO BUSY to talk to us. We said "well, we're leaving" to which the young man replied, "that's fine." NOT ONCE did anyone offer an apology. We will never return and it's a shame because we've been coming here for years, have celebrated birthdays and events here, but frankly that was just because we could bring in booze; the food isn't that good. So now we've lost more than an hour and are still starving and the manager doesn't have time for us....
