Too Long, Didn't Read version: the server was incredibly rude and even made a comment about my disabled son.
I will NEVER return to this Texas Roadhouse location. I've been to this location several times over the years, and generally have had a decent time. My experience here with my family tonight was AWFUL.
Our server was incredibly rude from the start. He did not greet us or introduce himself. He did not give the usual Texas Roadhouse spiel. He rolled his eyes and scoffed several times. I used to work in a very busy restaurant, so I figured maybe he was having a bad day and I tried to not let it upset myself or my family.
He came to the table, as I mentioned without the kindness I expect from TR. He simply said, "what do you want to drink?" Very flatly. He brought our drinks. He said, "what do you want to eat/order." I asked for a minute. When he returned, he did not address my son or me, and just had his notepad out, without saying a word. It was awkward. Still, bad days happen, right? So I awkwardly proceed with our order.
Then he disappears to the POS system that was right in front of my table. He stayed there not even using the POS, talking to other workers & counting his tip money. He was at the POS counter for at least 50% of our dining "experience," doing nothing.
After a runner brought our food out, he came over once (to two empty cups) and only addressed my 5 y/o, saying, "how are the mashed potatoes." Very flatly.
He went to the table behind us and was chatty and kind to them. Whatever, I know bad days in a restaurant. When he was walking to the table behind me, he must have realized I was trying to ask him something because he came back. I politely asked for refills, for when he had the time to do so. He took our cups with an attitude and sat them on our table silently & proceeded to go back to the POS counter.
My son & I eat our meals (which were okay at best) and finish. We are sitting there finished for a long while before he comes back to ask if we need boxes etc.
He brings the boxes back. My 5 year old said something to the server. Instead of addressing my child like a human, he scoffs, widens his eyes, and directs a, "I don't get how you can even understand him!" to me, about my son, who is sitting right there.
Look, I get it, my son has a speech delay. He IS hard to understand to people who aren't around him much. However, to talk to a guest like that about their child & to humiliate a child is so utterly rude. There are MANY completely acceptable ways to say, "sorry, I didn't get that," or, "hey mom, what did your kiddo say?" "Wow, mom, I'm so happy you can understand him despite his troubles talking."
I wonder what would have happened if he had a family who spoke something other than English at his table, "Wow have you ever considered speaking english?" or a guest with a mobility issue. Would he have said, "wow I don't understand how you can even EAT!"
I've had plenty of guests at the restaurant I used to work at who were disabled, mobility impaired, hard to understand for some reason or another, hard of hearing or deaf, etc., and never ONCE did I ever even think to make them feel embarrassed or unwelcome to eat.
I only even came to this location because I had just got done with an appointment, had a long day, and just wanted the luxury of eating a nice meal at one of my family's favorite restaurants, without having to cook/clean/whatever at home. I would have promptly asked for a manager but it was a HARD day and I wasn't trying to literally cry in a restaurant about a server not being able to do his job of providing a nice dining...
Read moreThe Roaming Trucker here, and I am in Camp Hill, PA! And this is my take on the Texas Roadhouse Restaurant. Me and the wife decided to check out this place after getting a 10% discount card from the hotel we stayed at Saturday night into Sunday morning. Upon arrival, we had a short wait to be seated which was not bad. Once seated, our waitress came over gave us some warm rolls with sweet butter and introduced herself and asked for our drink order and if we wanted appetizers. We chose not to do any appetizers. Our drinks came out and we placed our dinner order.
The wife chose not to pick out her cut of steak and went with the 6oz sirloin from the menu and ordered it medium with a baked sweet potato. I ordered the smothered grilled chicken, with both gravy and jack cheese and steak fries and applesauce. Wifes steak came out with a dual temp issue, part was medium, the other medium rare. The sweet potato was as she said, really good. My chicken on the other hand, wasn't how I had ordered it, had the cheese, but no gravy. The steak fries had enough salt on them, that they tasted like they were dunked in the dead sea. The sautéed onions were undercooked and for me, made them inedible. So, in short, I give the waitress 4 out of 5 stars. (Rare waitstaff receive 5) Food I give 3 out of 5 stars only because the kitchen staff can't follow simple directions. As for atmosphere, 4 out of 5 (would have been 5 out of 5, but staff there don't know the word "dusting"). There was dust in quite a few places throughout the restaurant. I always give places two try's before making a final decision on my overall rating, so the current 3 stars is my way of saying that I need to return one day to make my...
Read moreWe ordered 2 16 oz Fort Worth Ribeyes. The same thing we order every time we're at Texas Roadhouse. My daughter orders Medium Rare, I order mine rare. When the steaks were brought to the table, my daughters was fine, but my steak was very overdone. I sent it right back. The manager (Emily) brings a steak out some time later. I know right away that it is not a ribeye. It was really thin, and ALSO overcooked. I point this out, and she tries to tell me it is a ribeye and that they're a thinner cut of meat. I take what's left of my daughters ribeye and showed her the steaks were nowhere near comparable. She tells me my daughter must have got a NY Strip, and that my steak is definitely a ribeye. 1- There is not a 16 oz NY Strip on the menu, so either the manager is wrong (she is), or the cook accidentally cooked the wrong cut of meat for my daughter, that happened to look like every other ribeye we've ever ordered at Texas Roadhouse. This would mean every cook that has prepared our steak previously is wrong. 2- Either the manager is trying to cheat people by serving less prime cuts of beef intentionally, or she really doesn't know the difference between a sirloin and a ribeye. Both are problematic. 3- The manager is rude, and poorly trained. How can you manage a steakhouse, and not know the difference between a sirloin and a ribeye???
This location used to be the best one around (I changed a previous 5 star review), but it has declined in quality. Outback is right down the street. Eat...
