This food was very close to a 1 star. For background purposes my wife and I lived in NYC area for last 8 yrs and when we ate mediterranean food up there it was always good. So we were looking forward to this place since it had 4 stars on google reviews. In fact we picked out what we wanted the night before so we could pick it up on the way home from work... We had purchased three items and I will review them all:
Falafel - This was probably one of the better tasting falafels I have had, though it wasn't the freshest.Instead of traditional balls these seemed to be made in a tin and almost had a bite sized muffin shape, only smaller. Perhaps if they were bigger they would not have been so dried out. It was a shame cause the flavor was there. Value was not.
Lamb Kabob platter - The lamb chunks looked great. However they were very much over cooked. My wife said she liked them but didn't finish...
finally and most disappointedly - Shawarma Platter - The description says chicken thighs slowly cooked on a spit. The only spit was from me ejecting this extremely salty dried up chicken out of my mouth. I never in my life had chicken that salty before or shawarma that dry. You know the feeling you get after eating a salt bagel, where you need to drink a half gallon of water to hydrate your mouth, yeah it was like that!
The fixings were all pretty standard. We ate the remaining platter items and 2 pitas (total) that came with them. I only wish they gave us more pita cause it was easily the best thing we had followed by the rice.
I wouldn't eat at this location again. If I got desperate in the city I might give it a try, but truly doubtful after this...
Read moreTerrible. Just like other person reviewing, something is different and the place was better in the past. Ordered food and it was a mistake. Nothing looked fresh, hot, or appetizing. Canned beets and old wet salad. Anything fried was made in dirty and old oil you could see and taste. Mixed platter dish looked like dried up leftovers from lunch, chicken cutlet tasted like yesterday made. For Middle Eastern cuisine the lack of flavor overpowered by old oil made sure I threw away half of it, didn’t have any desire to keep the remainder since it was probably going to be thrown out by the restaurant anyway too. The kicker was the bathroom runs I got in two hours after consuming this garbage which confirmed it all (this was the only meal I had since breakfast that day). Won’t be ordering from here ever again and wanted to share truth with others to not be swindled or exposed to improper and possibly dirty food handing and storage, especially in the coming summer months. Also, as another reviewer said, the most important hummus was so oiled down and watered that it was almost like soup, no texture or flavor at all, like baby food. Sad that it was so tasteless, no homage to traditional middle eastern cuisine and may also be considered offensive to cultures familiar with the actual proper preparation and care for this...
Read moreThe good, the bad and the ugly... First time back since change of ownership. Unfortunately, other than the same amazing pita the place has been tottaly transformed, and not in a good way. Good shawarma, great pita bread, fast friendly staff. Our order was a little messed up but corrected immediately so we didn't mind. Very reasonable prices. Food , not so good. Too much salt in humus (and I'm a salt-o-holic, so if I say it's too salty...) but too little lemon, kebab, again...too salty but lacking other traditional spices, very blah other than the salt. Burned French fries... The ugly...the walls are painted a shocking turquoise, two old, wrinkled posters that have seen MUCH better days. If your looking for a tranquil environment...this is not it. If the owner is reading this...I didn't write in such detail to hurt your business but to point out what is wrong (in my opinion, of course) and can be easily corrected. Well, actually correcting the wall color will take some elbow grease... I predict at...
