Pho Street has all the elements of a good quality, delicious, and casual dining experience. The waitstaff is prompt, and the restaurant is clean. I have certain guidelines I follow to determine the characteristics of a good Vietnamese restaurant, and Pho Street meets all of them. If you're interested in what they are, read on, old chum...
When going to a Vietnsmese restaurant, there are a few things I look for: do they have condiments on the table? (Hoisin, sriracha, soy sauce, etc.) Do they also have chopsticks/spoons on the table?(beware if you need to ask for chopsticks) I look for these things, because at a restaurant with "Pho" in the name, pho should take pride of place. They should be confident enough to presume that is what you would order. Their most expensive bowl of pho should be $10-$12. I also look for that one relative of the store owner, sitting near the back on a tablet, or sitting off to the side eating, or sitting somehwere doing something. My experience of Vietnamese culture impressed one important element on me: community. You should see that alive in a good Vietnamese restaurant. These are general guidelines I follow, and they have served me well. Hope they're...
Read moreOur meal was amazing! My friend and I stopped by Pho Street for an early dinner last Sunday afternoon. She had the beef pho and I ordered the grilled chicken over rice vermicelli. We split an order of vegetarian spring rolls. Every thing was so delicious. I used to live in Bryn Mawr and Pho Street was a regular go-to place for me. Fast forward 5 years and I am still amazed at the quality of the food. The prompt and friendly service and overall terrific dining experience is also worth a shout out. It's not a flashy restaurant. They obviously focus their attention on what comes out of the kitchen. Not having been there in almost 5 years I'm grateful they survived the pandemic and very grateful the food is as delicious and tasty as it was when I could walk there for a bite to eat, all those years ago. I will not allow another 5 years to go by without having a delicious meal at Pho Street. In fact, I have plans to meet a friend for lunch next week and I'm really...
Read moreYesterday had lunch here and it was probably the worst experience for us in Vietnamese restaurants. Ordered Appetizers Sample and Pho with all meats but meatballs (which contained undercooked everything including "al dente" noodle, awfully tasting broth, unfresh looking bean sprouts and very small amount of wilted herbs and onion). As of the "sample" it was actually "do it yourself kit" of ingredients for Summer Rolls + the smallest and tasteless versions of three other appetizers priced $22 for making the cooking yourself. Being not from asian origins and not knowing how to make them we only received short instruction: "wet the paper, put the ingredients you want in it and wrap". No, it's not what we've expected as an answer. Besides, it would be nice to know that it' s DIY dish mentioned in the menu, or by the waiter before ordering. Prices are high, quality of the food is low, ambiance is not clean, service is clueless = definitely not worth...
