This is an update to my original post over a year ago. See below to see the old post. After the broken pipe that unfortunately occurred in January, 2017, we returned a few times because of the impact this place had on us with their great beer and AWESOME BBQ. However, it wasn't the same. The beer was decent, the wings did not appear or taste like they were smoked (they were way better just smoked rather than smoked, then flash fried), and the pulled pork sandwich was good, but kind of dry. And no Austin sauce? This is definitely a good place for a beer and a sandwich, but I think we had such high expectations after the reopening occurred that weren't met. May be we have to give it another shot sometime.
My post from late 2016: 'Been waiting a long time for Tin Lizard to open! Great food, and AWESOME tasting beer. This is my 36th brewery I've visited, and I certainly rate this brewery in my top 5! I'm more of a dark beer drinker, but you must try their red ale. I had their wings dry battered and added their selection of sauces to try them all out. They were all great sauces and very tasty, fall-off-the-bone wings! You have to try the "Austin Sauce." And their Andouille Sandwich = phenomenal....
Read moreFood was exceptional. The loaded fries and chicken wing was pretty good. BBQ platers gave you a lot of meat. The service wasn’t all that great. It took a while for our waiter to come back to take our orders. I ordered the fried chicken special, but the waiter gave me the regular fried chicken sandwich. I thought I probably wasn’t being specific enough but people at the table assured me that I said the right thing and even pointed to what I wanted. Someone at the table ordered a cheesesteak and I guess the waiter forgot to place his order. Everyone got their food before him and we had to wait for the cheesesteak to get cooked. The waiter did apologize for the wait, but we would’ve appreciated if he just acknowledged that he made a mistake by not placing the order. I’m not asking for a free meal, but I think that should’ve been comped cause the whole table wasn’t going to eat without him so our food was cooled off by the time that cheesesteak hit the table. It took our waiter a while to check in on us and we waited for quite sometime for our bill and to go boxes. We’re not the type of people to cause a scene but I thought that the wait staff could’ve been a bit...
Read moreI am a local and a strong believer in this restaurant. Dispite the low amount of stars, my friends and i love this restaurant and will often state it first when thinking of a place to eat. The food is good, the staff if nice, and its right next to the comic store. My main issue with the restaurant is the hours and communication.
The hours are not great. Only open half the week. When they are open its only for a small window. You can’t go in for a early or late lunch, only for dinner. Its a little frustrating, especially when you just want to go for a casual dining experience outside of the weekend.
The other issue is communication. First off, their website hasn’t been updated in a while. Not a big deal, but an inconvenience. You can’t see the menu or any updates. This ties into the next point, they don’t twll you when they aren’t operating. Today we drove over after checking google and the website. We get there, and its closed. They could’ve updated fheir google profile to say closed at the very least.
Its hard to support a restaurant that isn’t ever open. Hopefully one day i can actually return to...
